Realistically, she wasn't right for the part!

Do you mean a toaster or toasted teacake in Dickensian London - I think your simile was too obscure to have any impact.

The lovely fair skinned Sarah could hardly be compared to toast.

That made me really happy, even though I knew tonight's result. Kids are smarter than we give them credit for Lol! I'll bet Sarah loved it too. Even though she went tonight, she did so having done something none of the other Nancies did.

That said, I can see where the people who can't see Sarah as Nancy are coming from. We aren't shown any acting, so all we have to go on is the live performances, and the songs they are given don't often show them in a very "Nancy-like" light.”

I agree with this - think it's about time we see them singing more "role specific" songs in character.....that also means getting rid of the full slap and evening dress for a more neutral look.

Seeing Sarah in the behind the scenes VT.. with her curly hair and no make up...I could begin to picture her version of Nancy...but dancing about to Mr Bojangles really gives you very little clue about how she could/might Nancy....

There's a side of Nancy that the young boys in Fagin's gang- especially Oliver- take to, and it has nothing to do with grit, prostitution or Ooom pah pah. She's a decent girl at heart, who has been screwed up by her upbringing, ducking and diving to survive and the ruthlessness of Bill Sykes. She finally finds the strength and decency within herself to help Oliver but pays for it with her life.

That's my take on Nancy and Sarah was one of only two Nancys that I could see playing it for me. Jessie is the other. You can be that messed up that young.

Although It should certainly be pointed out for the sake of an unfortunately extended metaphor that I don't want to stuff Sarah in my gob, even if she did have currents in her.”

To be fair, I have previously compared her to Gimli from Lord of the Rings and the Teapot from Beauty and the Beast, so this could only be described as a massive improvement, unless it couldn't.

Shall we say say you're mellowing then.

Sarah is much more talented than the polished but boring Rachel.

How can Rachel be more polished? Sarah's vocals have been impeccable week after week.

Rachel has been flat/sharp and downright screechy.

All hail the professionals!

(PS I know Sarah's done some professional work but we never had it rammed down our throats.)

Although it should be said that the teapot is not an insult ... I love Angela Lansbury, and I love that song ...

To this day I find it hard to walk past a teapot without hugging it

Well, true, but that's why ALW says he saved Rachel. I don't see it personally. Sarah's final song was brilliant, not a strain at all. Unfortunately people didn't see her as Nancy.

A cockney accent, a dirty frock and a bit of muck on yer face can go a long way.
