Ice Cream Makers

Thinking of getting one, but wondered whether it's worth the hassle or whether I should stick to buying Ben & Jerry's?

Anyone got any advice or recommendations for a good machine.

I've got one, but don't use it any more. At first it was a novelty, and I loved trying all different recipes and flavours, but eventually I went back to buying the good old Ben & Jerry's and Haagen Dazs or other premium ones.

Having to keep the bowl in the freezer is a bit of a pain if you haven't got a very big freezer, and in the end it just became too much hassle to bother.

Another 5-minute wonder now gathers dust on top of the kitchen cupboards!

I bought a Panasonic one, it's one that's battery powered and it works whilst in the freezer, had it a few years and it's not been taken out the box, I will get around to using it, bought it as there was a voucher code going round so got it for £4.99 delivered. So not bad for less than a fiver.

It really depends on the kinda person you are. I used to make bread without my breadmaker and the breadmaker just made things easier so I used it quite a lot over the year although never enough and it's been out of action on the shelf for a few months now.

I know I'd use an Ice Cream maker quite a lot in the beginning but I think it wouldn't take long before I stopped using it entirely. Plus I can't remember which one but a local Supermarket is doing Ben & Jerry's for £2 a tub so for me the sensible choice is to invest that money there.

Yes, I used to have a breadmaker too - that went the same way!

That's what I thought, I had Peanut Butter Ice Cream at a restaurant the other day and it got me thinking about one, but don't think i'll bother.

A friend of mine bought one and the test loaf came out like a breeze block!

I was surprised by how expensive it worked out as. By the time I'd got the cream and all the other ingredients I'd spent about the same as I would for a branded premium quality ice cream

The results were very good though. The ice cream was delicious and had the advantage of not having any preservatives or other chemicals in it

The drum did take up a lot of room in the freezer and our machine was hand operated, which was pretty arduous. And then it broke

But for a while we did have fresh, delicious ice cream and it was fun to do

I was thinking about it but I won't bother now. I've bought too many of these gadgets over the years and never use them. I was close to buying a stupidly expensive Gaggia coffee machine recently but how many times would it get used? My wife bought me a pasta maker thingy for fresh pasta for my birthday. Have I used it? I think you can guess the answer!
