First to perform were Jessie and Samantha, with Jesus Christ Superstar. Right from the offset, before the vocals started, Samantha was in character from the second she stepped on stage, while Jessie only seemed to come alive when she started to sing. I love the song, and from their performances I’d say both girls did too

Oh dear

"In the results show (and by the way, thanks so much to the “friend” who divulged the result to me on Sunday morning) we were shown this week’s acting task — to act towards Barry, speaking the words of As Long As He Needs Me instead of singing them. Jessie’s accent still causes her problems, but she’s getting better on that front. Samantha seemed to take a while to get into it, and Jodie attracted criticism more for delivering a different interpretation rather than for any technical reason."

Just because the friend had told him the result on Sunday morning he doesn't feel it necessary to mention Rachel excelling in the acting mission???

This smacks a bit too much of writing his views to suit the result rather than what he actually saw.

I agreed with almost all of this review. Would differ over the Buenos Aires duet which I enjoyed and thought conveyed the party feel of the song.

He saw what he saw, perhaps it doesn't tally with your viewing of it, it doesn't completely tally with mine . He "loves Jodie to bits" I don't but it's all subjective critisism and all critisism good or bad is personal opinion

I agree with Scott. It was a shouty mess. The hunger, passion and ruthless desire for success just wasn't there. Elaine Paige they weren't.

Funny as I thought the JC song was a shouty mess! Maybe he got his songs mixed up as well as the contestants

Aw sorry Scott only teasing - one little mistake can be forgiven but i disagree with the duets.

I thought the Jodie / Sam duet was the much better one, but no favouritism because I like both Rachel and Sam equally

Thought JCS was a mess too, but then I never liked that song. I could hardly hear the girls singing though.

Check out www.playbill.com.
Look for Rudetsky.
He's great.
His reviews only go up to Sarah going out though.
But he's very funny!

Totally agree Twingle. I thought Jessie and Rachel's duet was much better than JCSS. But for me, there was definitely a bit of overkill going on with the JCSS number. They did it last year in the final, Carly Smithson did it on AI, whereas Buenos Aires was very fresh. I really enjoyed it.

Superstar was much better, focussed and very ably performed, in the spirit of JCS. Buenos Aires wasn't. There was no light and shade - just a shout-a-thon throughout.

I think my views on the duets are mainly based on Buenos Aires being my all time least favourite MT song in the world, ever...

Something to tide you over until Saturday night - our I'd Do Anything-themed podcast is now available.

Apologies for the poor sound quality of my phone conversation with Zoe - I tidied it up as best I could:

Thank you, Mr Matthewman. Very kind.

Do YOU think Jodie's voice could hold out for the requisite number of performances?
