Just wondering what other roles you'd see the Nancys in.

Jessie- would make a great Calamity Jane, one role where gracelessness is a plus! Or possibly Annie Oakley from Annie Get Your Gun.

Ashley- well comedic acting seems her strength so possibly Kate Monster/Lucy the Slut in Avenue Q (although I'd rather see Abi from HDYSAPLM have a crack at that first!)

Jodie- Mamma Morton from Chicago, in fact I would almost be surprised if she didn't get the role after this show (assuming she doesn't win of course). Or possibly Madame Thernadier (Les Mis).

Sarah- Ellen from Miss Saigon or Sophie in Mamma Mia just to name two.

Fran- another Ellen, also either Meatloaf or Scaramouche in We Will Rock You.

Niamh- Eponine in Les Mis or Christine in Phantom (although not yet!), Nessarose in Wicked.

Rachel- Grizabella in Cats, Mary in The Beautiful Game

Sam- Chorus in Modern Millie or Chicago, seriously i'm not being mean I just genuinely can't think of any leading role she could do at this time possibly Wendla in Spring Awakening in a couple of years time but thats about it.

I'd like to add Keisha, and say she'd also make a really good Mama Morton.

And Sam or Naimh- I could see them in Rent once they're a bit older as Mimi or Maureen... Currently, maybe Penny/Amber in Hairspray? Or Dorothy in Wizard of Oz (though that's probably more Naimh than Sam).

After watching her perform with the Olivers, I reckon Sarah would make a great Maria in TSOM or Mary Poppins. But I'd actually like to see her take a whack at Kate Monster in Avenue Q, or Tracy in Hairspray.

Oh Sarah would suit Tracy actually, good spot, she's bubbly enough to pull it off.
When I saw Niamh I thought Christine from Phantom, but obviously after a bit more work.

Tracy in Hairspray is a good call for Sarah, I considered putting that down but then I would have ended up listing all the parts I think Sarah could do and bore everyone! Seriously though if it weren't for her height (which does matter even if it shouldn't) i'd say Sarah is easily the most versatile of the lot, certainly vocally. As it is her height means that I don't think she could do either Mary Poppins or SOM as good as she'd be as both (I think she could have got away with it with Nancy, because although Nancy does become a mother figure to Oliver, it isn't as formal as being a Nanny, and also Fagin's gang are all boys so it's obvious who Nancy is if that makes sense).

Someone on the Sarah Lark Appreciation Thread suggested Evita? That would be interesting. I think her height would be more of a problem in TSOM than in Mary Poppins- Mary's a pretty distinguishable character.

I'd LOVE Jodie to do Madame Thernadier.

I'd actually really like to see Fran as Fantine from Les Mis. I'd love to hear her sing I Dreamed a Dream. I think a few of girls would be good at the part, but I think it would suit Fran's voice the most.

Hmm, so we have Fran playing Meat in We Will Rock You, Fantine in Les Misérables and Ellen in Miss Saigon... it's like Kerry Ellis' entire back catalogue!

Though I couldn't picture her as an Elphaba.

I don't know if any of the Nancies would be capable of playing Elphaba. Vocally, Sarah. But she looks more like G[a]linda...


If it's true that they're making 'The Little Mermaid' into a stage musical I could see Sam playing Ariel. I could also see her or Sarah as Belle from Beauty and the Beast.

She'd be a very Julia Murney-esque Elphaba, I think. Though I don't think she's there yet.

They did make The Little Mermaid, didn't they? If I remember correctly, Sherie Rene Scott was (is?) Ursula.

I think it's on Broadway at the minute... wonder if they'll bring it to London any time soon? This isn't intended to sound cruel, because I love Jodie, but Jodie would make a good Ursula...

Sam - Pretty much the same roles of Niamh. Also Maureen in Rent.

Jodie - I'm not a fan of Jodie, but I do think she'd make a fantastic Mme. Thenardier.

I read the book a looooooooong time before the musical existed. Funnily I pictured Nessarose to look a little like Naimh - of course, with no arms. Lol!

Has anyone seen The Lord of The Rings musical? I know there are a lot of contraversial opinions about it, but I loved it. It's closing, unfortunately, but could anyone else see Fran as Galadriel?

Lol I love the book so much. And I agree about Niamh as Nessarose. Strange that so many people can see her in the role. I have always thought of Niamh as Swallow in Whistle Down the Wind. Her voice was made for that song.

As for the others.

Jodie - I can see her as Dolly Levi (from Hello Dolly) I wonder what she could do with Adelaide (Guys and Dolls).

Sarah - My brother has already suggested Anna Leonowens (King and I) which I think is quite a good idea. Truly Scrumptious in Chitty. Of all of them, I think she might be my Eponine.

Rachel - I don't know if she's vocally strong enough, but from an acting/appearance point of view, Elphaba. The slightly manic quality she has would be well suited to this role. Anita in West Side Story perhaps?

Jessie - agree about Calamity Jane or Annie Oakley. What about Reno in Anything Goes? (with some dance training)

Fran - I'd love to see her as Sarah in Guys and Dolls, I think this would be a gorgeous part for her. Agree about Fantine and Ellen. Maybe Mrs Johnstone? (Blood Brothers)

Sam - Probably for all the wrong reasons, but Ado Annie in Oklahoma. Bonnie in Anything Goes (the version where Bonnie gets to do stuff). Or the female lead in Me and My Girl, the one that Emma Thompson (insert vomit smilie) played. Sally? That would make good use of her dancing.

Oooh, if The Little Mermaid thing is true, Sam is the one that shouts "Ariel!" to me. But maybe that's just because her dress this week was distinctly scaly and mermaid-like. I also agree with Jodie as Ursula - not in a mean way but I think she'll be great, with the right amount of humour.

Yes Fran herself has said that she'd love to play Mrs Johnstone when she's older, and I can definitely see her in that role. Hopefully she'll get something sooner than that though

It's obvious that ALW is eyeing up Jessie for another role.

I can see Ashley singing something like "Master of the House" in Les Miserables. She has a weird sort of stage presence that makes you watch her even when she hits a bum note.

Jodie would be my choice as Nancy.

All great singers but I find the the other younger ladies quite forgetable as leading ladies.

I agree! (And LOL about her dress!) Plus, Ariel is only supposed to be 16, so her age wouldn't factor too much. I suppose it would depend on her stamina and whether her voice is ready.

I find it weird that so many of the Marias, to me anyway, just screamed Roxy and Velma from Chicago. But I can't actually see any of the Nancies in those roles...

Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors would be good for a few of them I reckon.

Who may I ask (just curious)?, Aoife actually was Roxie (and very good too) but I can't particularly imagine any of the others doing either part. And actually thinking about it if Rachel was a better dancer I could see her as Velma.

Probably because she is Irish but when I see Jessie I think of Finians Rainbow. Mind you FR hasn't seen the light of day I don't think since the film back in the seventies. Oh and TV reruns.

Maybe Sam in about 5 years?
