I'm looking to get myself a new budget DVD player, Can anyone recommend one that can handle all disc formats (DVD, DVD-R, CD-R, DVD+R, etc), is remote hackable, copes with RCE and ability to play mp3's would be cool too. There seems to be so many out there these days, its hard to know which one to go for. Any suggestions?

I bought this a week or two ago and it seems o.k. Although I'm not an expert on DVD's.!

Don't know if you're keeping an eye on my thread, Clive, but the Pacific 1002 at £44 from ASDA is coming out well. Plays DVD-R apparently. To be honest, you won't find many machines that will play DVD+R and DVD-RW as well. It tends to be only recorders that handle these formats.

Happy hunting!

Sue

Found a German brand called PLU2 (Only seen them on eBay - search for PLU2 in titles and descriptions - there are loads of them, all new)

It has progressive scan giving 1000 line resolution, DTS, DD 5.1 and Pro-Logic II decoder, Zoom up to 128x, DVS loader, which is the same as those in Meridian and Arcam players, which retail for £1000+, it's multi-region and it plays the following...

DVD, VCD (all versions), CD, DVD-Audio, Mini-DVD, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, MP3, CD-R, CD-RW, S-VCD, MVCD, JPEG, Kodak Picture CD, and copy protected discs.

That's an impressive list! They reckon there is nothing on disc that this beaut won't play, and it costs well less than a ton. Some sellers on eBay are selling it on Buy It Now for £85 + delivery, but others are auctioning it, and it never gets up to the ton.

Take a look!

Said it before and sure I'll say it again

The Pacific 1002 from Asda does all you want and more.
It also comes with a 3 year guarantee.

And the best bit, it only costs £44.00

I have just replaced a 5 year old Pioneer with one of these budget beauties!

I can't fault it.
