Programme guide problem on PVR-9200T

Hi,
Does anyone else have this problem? (and hopefully a solution)
When I go into the programme guide I cannot get all the programmes to show up eg for BBC1 it will show me some programmes for that day whereas for other channnels it won't list any programmes and another channel shows all the schedule?
When I am out of the guide all channels are recieved without any problems-does anyone have any tips /solutions?
Thanks Steve

It sounds like the EPG isn't populating properly. Are you on the latest firmware? as this improved it dramatically. I tip I used to use was to use the picture in picture function eg, a bbc channel & an ITV channel so that both tuners are in use to speed the process up

It's worth checking the basics in case the guide isn't being picked up - is your reception OK? What sort of signal strength and quality are you getting and are there any channels in the 800s?

Hi,
The reception is good all channels picked up fine.
I will try the picture in picture option to see if that helps.
I do have some channels in the 800's (800-805) Is this a problem?
The latest software I have is 1.00.21 (Dec 2007)
I'm using the OTA option so assume am on latest software?
Signal strength is = lowest at 35 and highest 70
Signal quality is = around70-90
the loading application is a.4.09
Would it be worth getting an internal booster aerial to fix onto recorder?
Thanks in advance.

Having channels in the 800 range indicates that you are receiving signals from two transmitters which may be causing the EPG problems, try doing a manual search for the correct UHF channels from your ‘best’ transmitter. The EPG should populate fully in about 8 minutes.

The reason for doing a Manual Search is to target the six multiplexes coming only from your preferred transmitter. The UHF channel numbers for your six digital channels (multiplexes) from your preferred transmitter can be obtained from the DTG web-site.

First you need to delete all existing channels.
Menu > Edit Channels > Edit Channel Lists > Password (0000) and delete all TV channels, note there is a Select All button. Go to Group, select Radio and delete all the radio channels. Press Exit on the remote control and when invited save all the changes.

You will now get a message saying No channels are available……, press OK. You should now be taken to the Installation menu, choose Manual Search. Put the first UHF channel number obtained from the DTG web-site into Channel (actually the order doesn’t matter) and press Search. When the search completes, Save. Put the next UHF channel number into Channel and press Search.....Save. Repeat this for all six UHF channel numbers and you will find all your Freeview channels on their correct numbers with none in the 800 range. Good luck.

Thanks for the manual search tip have just completed it.

Will i have to redo manual search every time i switch machine back on?
Thanks Steve

Glad to see that there is an improvement - I though Big-les would help with his retuning guide!
You won't have to do anything unless you do a default reset or the broadcasters change the logical channel numbers and a re-scan is needed to pick them up. Then it is a matter of following the instructions again.

On your signal strength & quality figures, the quality is running a bit low for 70% signal strength - should be a rock steady 100%. You may have some interference. It is worth checking the connectors aren't loose. Plugs should be metal with the centre core soldered and the co-axial is best with a double screen (as per satellite cable).

The Wolfbane site is good for predicting signal strength and recommending the aerial type and if an amplified would help(http://www.wolfbane.com/cgi-bin/tvd.exe?). Generally an amplifier/booster adds interference and, in some cases, can make the picture worse!

Stevie331,

All the manual search really does is to put you in control rather than the Humax auto searching for what it sees as a usable signal. What aps2011 says about you quality reading is correct, however as you were picking up signals from two transmitters I didn’t worry about the figures you quoted because they might have been from the wrong transmitter. Maybe you could update us on your signal strength and quality figures and whether the EPG is now functioning correctly. Also as aps2011 says quality should be a rock solid 100%.

As for the Wolfbane site I think it is good for selecting the best transmitter to use for a particular post code but I think they over estimate the required aerial. Take for example my location, Wolfbane suggest an amplified extra high gain aerial, in reality I use an un-amplified high gain loft mounted aerial with complete success.

Hi Big-les and aps2011 ,
Yes the EPG is working fine- I used the Bluebell Hill transmitter and cannot get channel 5!! signal strength is between 40-60% and quality up to 100%.
I am going to try and re-scan using crystal palace to see if that will pick up channel 5-If not any tips?
I can say there is a definte improvement in the EPG and there was an occasional breakup of signal which appears to be fixed.
I have a booster aerial as i'm not in a freeview area and will check the additional cable connections.

Ch5 is carried on multiplex A, see here, which also carries many other Freeview channels, have you got any of the other channels from multiplex A? Multiplex A is UHF channel 27 from Bluebell Hill, when you searched on UHF channel 27 did the Hummy pick up any freeview channels? I guess the transmitter to go for is the one your aerial is pointing at.

I rescanned with the bluebell transmitter and managed to pick up the extra channels including channel 5 (for some reason it didn't pick all the channels up on the first go).
I now have the EPG working but it does seem slow to load all the guide for some channels.
I would count it as a succcess though!!!
Thanks Steve

Maybe you forgot to Save or something when you searched on UHF channel27 the first time. Providing you can actually receive all six multiplexes with a usable signal strength Manual Search should work perfectly.

To test the EPG load time switch on and select BBC1, the EPG should just about be fully loaded in 8 to 10 minutes. If you are interested in a particular channel then switch to that channel.

Thanks for that Big-les I didn't realise it would take between 8-10 mins to fully load the EPG- I tried it out earlier and it all seems to be working fine.
Thanks to everyone for their advice and helpful comments.
Regards Steve
