Yes she is. Sorry, I thought she might be a bit too buxom next to BG, who appears quite slight.
If Sarah's considered too buxom, Jodie and Ashley may as well fetch their coats

I don't think Bill has to necessarily be a big man, as long as he's menacing. Gorman's a good actor, he should be able to do the scary don't-mess-with-him act well - and I don't think that he would necessarily not fit with any of the girls based on stature either.
Good point. It's not the physical menace that's important - but the psychological hold he has over Nancy.

Wasn't Oliver Reed short?

LOL! Only on DS would we get into a debate about an actors height before they are even announced in the role!

If you watch Torchwood, Burn is a little bit shorter than John Barrowman. Burn is quite slender so he does look less substantial especially as JB tends to wear a big flappy cost in Torchwood. but he is not short.

I think that Burn would look OK against any of the girls and as others have said menace is all about attitude. After all, IMO no one does menacing better than Robert Carlyle and he is only 5' 7".

i wanted tom hardy but burn gorman is fine.at least its not that mockney twerp danny dyer or nick knowles.ugh.
and the nancy i can see complimenting burn wonderfully is....jessie!

Hmmm - not sure about that.

Jessie looks quite tall. she definitely looks taller than the other girls and she's also quite well built - think she might look as though she could put him through a wall with one push.

Burn's quite slim, but I don't doubt his ability to kick the s**t out of someone. Has anyone seen the episode of Torchwood with the Weevil cage-fight?! I reckon he'd be an AMAZING Bill Sykes.

It's not all about appearace. Burn is an amazing actor (just go and watch the series 2 finale of Torchwood. I defy you to watch Owen's death scene without getting a lump in your throat!) He could put the right amount of menace into the performance. And even if he is playing opposite Jessie, Jodie or Ashley (the more well-built Nancies) I think he'd be capable of seeming intimidating. It all depends on who's acting (or not...) opposite him and if they can portray the right level of vulnerablity.

Is the Bill Sykes role a singing role? Because I never got the impression that Burn Gorman can sing. I know he plays in clubs with his band and such but that's kind of ways from singing in a West End musical.

Just wondering because when John Barrowman was asked about doing a Torchwood musical, he mentioned that Naoko Mori (Tosh) can sing really well but only said that Burn Gorman was a great dancer and made no mention of his singing ability, so I assumed Burn Gorman wasn't much of a MT singer.

Agreed that Burn Gorman is a great actor. I never liked the Owen character but he really shown in the Owen-heavy episodes in this season of Torchwood.

Bill isn't a huge singing role... he shouts his way though My Name and then growls through the It's A Fine Life reprise. I think it's the one part you can get away with not being a great singer.

He can sing and according to his biogs he is also a very good human beatbox and a breakdancer! He has performed as a musician with a number of pop acts. I guess he's what you call multi-talented.

Now that this has been suggested, I really want him to play this part!

I like him. He was brilliant in Bleak house.

I agree Bill doesn't have to an enormous bloke but I can't see them casting a bigger girl in the role of Nancy. I think she would have to be smaller in height and frame.

I suppose this casting explains the departure of Fran and Sarah........

Sorry I don't quite get this either Sarah and Fran were 2 of the smallest, Sarah at 4'11" and Fran is only just over 5'

If it's true he would be an excellent Bill Sykes and out of interest IMDB has his height as 5ft 10" - should be tall enough for most of the Nancys!

I don't know his real name, I should have looked it up, but I always thought the man who plays Sean in Eastenders would make an excellent Bill Sykes, I love the original Bill in the Oliver Twist film Robert Newton, nobody does menace like him, even the dog looked scared to death of him.

What were you refering to then? if it was talent then I'll agree with you as Fran was my favourite from day 1

I've lost the will to live on this one. But think they will choose a Nancy who 'fits' in physically with Burn Gorman. Not too tall or too small/not too buxom or too slight.
