FreeSat is a EPG made by BBC & ITV to help make up from the mess made with DTT ( Freeview ), with no more space given to our public TV system even after the DSO.

Freeview will not cover all the UK even after the DSO.

Freesat has the same trouble as Freeview ( NO MONEY ) put in by our Government, so no space.

FreeSat can cover all the UK, but the only satellite beam that covers is full of channels.

FreeSat is held back because channels need to have UK only beam to help with copy right issues of shows.

The Name FreeSat is owned by the BBC.

FreeSat is EPG software that allows FTA ( Free to Air ) Channels on satellite to be listed and seen with a BOX or TV that is built by companies under license.

FreeSat give the the UK regional channels from BBC, ITV, Ch4.

FreeSat is testing BBC iPlayer "beta" at this time which uses your Internet service ( 2MB and above ) to allow you to see BBC shows from BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Three, BBC four, CBBC, Cbeebies. You can pick from High or Low bandwidth.

Just put a network cable into the back of the Humax box ( SD, HD & HD PVR ) press the red button on a BBC channel and press numbers 5483, then OK and it will load the BBC iPlayer Beta.

It's hoped that ITV Player will be here soon. ( Spring )

FreeSat has one main HD channel, with EPG number ( BBC HD ), with ITV1 HD that can be seen by using the red button on time, when you are on ITV 1.

ITV1 HD is to go onto an EPG number from Spring has it goes live on freeview HD with longer hours.
so at the end of the day it's a joke lol , thx for info

That depends on how you define "a joke" doesn't it?

If you are quite happy to pay ridiculous amounts of money to simply "watch TV" and to receive 100's of frivolous channels you don't want, watch or even need, then fine! Carry on...

...and "the joke" is on who now?

not on me , i got rid of sky and expected a little more from freesat HD . one HD channel and a few programs upscaled by itv (this is not a channel but a joke) , will this improve when freeview HD launches fully ? . also why is channel4 HD sky only ? , is channel five going to go the same way with their HD channel ?

I suspect that in the case of Channel 4, there are certain contractually binding agreements with Sky that are "cramping their style" at the moment.

I agree that doing HD via the "Red Button" is a bit of a joke though... ITV just don't seem to have any commitment for anything these days... Perhaps if advertising revenue picks up, that may change...

Channel 5 is just about broke isn't it?

Same here! I just checked in non-Freesat mode and there is no information in the "i" plate and the time is set incorrectly. Out of interest I switched over to the Astra 1 NHK world and the "i" plate is working correctly and will also display the next programme. Thus I wonder if the Astra 2 data is just missing irrespective of Freesat or not? Too much Saki ???

Here's a snip from here http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2...n-profits-drop back in August 09...

RTL, the biggest division, saw operating profits fall to €353m from €494m. Channel Five, whose shows include House and CSI, was the worst-performing part within RTL, despite achieving €22m of cost savings through running fewer new programmes, renegotiating with suppliers and cutting a quarter of staff.

From what I have read elsewhere, that situation hasn't really gone away yet...

My MythTV box collects FreeSat EPG data whilst recording something from a FreeSat channel; I recently noticed that there were no EPG entries either.

But when I recorded something earlier tonight, NHK World TV's EPG was showing programmes again.

How do you mean??

iPlayer has been available on Humax HDs for a few weeks now, using a code.
Nothing different happened today, as far as I know?
It's not on the main BBC1 red button menu (at least, not on my box).

It is now available to ALL Humax HD freesat boxes users...not just to 'testers'.

Yet another waste of valuable space.Free sat must have a hotline to god!!not to mention shopping, soft porn and gambling channels!!If freesat is really committed to providing a quality service then it needs to make a real effort to attract decent channels.Reducing the cost of getting an epg slot would be a good start!!I know that we cannot expect an array of channels such as sky because it is essentially a free service to the viewer but they haven't even got close to Freeview in terms of quality.

What fta channels not already on the epg would you like to see there ?. All the decent fta stuff at 28.5/28.2 is already on the epg.

More on topic BET moved transponder from 11307 V to 11347 H

Genesis TV is not a waste of capacity at all as it was already broadcasting FTA at 28.5 E

Genesis TV is simply paying the fee to be added to the freesat EPG, the more channels already broadcasting FTA at 28 E that pay to be added the more successful freesat will become.

Christian TV is a very welcome addition to freesat IMHO and much better than slapper/gambling/shopping channels although shopping channels do serve a purpose for some!

don't deny Christians their choice of programming just because you don't like Christian TV because it is CHRISTIAN!

after all choice is what multi channel satellite services are all about, and choice is a good thing.

you never know! if you watch some of the Christian TV you may find some has an educational value too.

Because one doesn't wish a saturation of God channels on tv does not make them non christian or non any religious faith.Equally because one doesn't wish to be saturated with shopping channels doesn't mean they are adverse to shopping. You probably can't see that in the same way you could only make reference to christianity!!Yes it is a waste of space because if it had stayed in non freesat mode it would not have been taking an epg slot.I think that the £30,000- per annum these religious bodies spend to be on the epg would be better spent on many justifiable causes around the world'AMEN
