Sky News and LBC Radio/Heart 106.2 are favourites of mine which I'd like to see on Freesat. When I had Sky, I quite often listened to them whilst other stuff recorded.
Not much chance of Sky News joining, though I would expect CNBC to.
All new channels help keep the service running, saying that lowering the EPG price would increase the number of channels on Freesat. £30,000 a year is a lot of money, for a small satellite service.
If I were head of Freesat, I would reduce the EPG cost by half for both TV & radio. This would attract far more channels and boost Freesat sales.
As a PSB platform, what about some space for local or community services?
BBC local radio could also be made available.
As for more quality channels, it is time the PSBs took the plunge and changed to DVB-S2 MPEG 4, this would create a lot of space on Astra 2D.
Freesat should not sell MPEG2 only receivers, this could help the move to DVB-S2 and MPEG4. Just think how many SD channels you could place on a transponder using DVB-S2 with MPEG 4!

Freesat don't sell anything other than the epg. The fact that only 1 manufacturer makes SD boxes and omits a S2 tuner is entirely down to the individual maker. They can't force anyone to transmit anything thats down to the broadcasters not Freesat.
What about the thousands and thousands of free to air SD and HD boxes only having DVB-S tuners, you can't expect SD broadcasters in particular to disenfranchise such a large slice of their audience.

I hardley think that the current 3 Christian TV channels on freesat is anywhere aproaching saturation!

Christian bodies spend many millions more every year distributing clothing to those who have none, feeding the hungry, giving a home to orphans, providing funding for those who need medical treatment but cannot afford it........

Well on the subject of DVB-S2 MPEG4, it looks like Sky will lead the way again.
They are now offering HD receivers as standard from now on.

This makes ecconomic sense, as they can save a lot of many on transponder rental and increase their HD content and offer more channels. The rest will follow in the next few years.

£30,000 a year to reach near on a million homes, not a lot of money in my opinion...
It's a heck of a lot less than what NTL were charging (before merging with Telewest) - when they had little over a million customers.
According to DTG software updates are due from today to take the Foxsat HD/HDR v1.00.26/v1.00.13. No Details as yet on the Humax Site as to what these updates fix. We'll all have to wait until after 0900 to find out.

Have you forgotten uplink and transponder costs? Even if you are on the $ky EPG, it has to be taken into account.

Took the Automatic Upgrade option - all done in around 20 minutes

This is a thread for changes in channels etc, please don't use for general Freesat conversation and specific software updates.
The Freesat Information Channel is now active by pressing the red button. Not a great deal on there, but at least it is now active.

Barry on Hummy.org reported an earlier change that he could not find and differences. A later update confirms cnbc on Ch 210 (11261 H) and a transponder change to 402 Information TV 12523 H to 12623 H (which is odd as I can't find this transponder at 28.2/28.5 on Kingofsat. I can't investigate at the moment as the hdr is recording.
