The multi award winning production of Cabaret will open at Birmingham Repertory Theatre on August 29th. Directed by Rufus Norris this production features a star cast including none other than world-renowned dancer and TV favourite Wayne Sleep as Emcee, reprising the role he famously played in the acclaimed 1986 West End production. Samantha Barks, the hugely popular finalist from the hit BBC series I’d Do Anything, has been cast in the prestigious role of Sally Bowles.

Barks, from the Isle of Man, which was aptly renamed ‘Isle of Sam’ for a day in celebration of her success in the BBC reality show, will be the first of the ‘Nancy’ finalists to perform in a major role following the TV show.

Since its Broadway premiere in 1966 and the famous movie version, with Liza Minnelli, Michael York and Joel Grey, Cabaret has won a staggering number of stage and screen awards including eight Oscar’s, seven BAFTA’s and 13 Tony’s.

This “Sensational” Double Olivier Award Winner and Variety Club Awards ‘Best Musical’, turns Weimar Berlin of 1931 into a sassy, sizzling haven of decadence. And at its heart is the legendary Sally Bowles, who performs nightly at the infamous Kit Kat Klub in ‘A shimmering masterpiece of a show guaranteed night after night!’

From the creators of the hit musical Chicago, Cabaret features show-stopping choreography, dazzling costumes and some of the most iconic songs in musical theatre including Mein Herr, Maybe This Time and of course Cabaret.

Joining Wayne Sleep and Samantha Barks in the cast will be Henry Luxemburg as Clifford Bradshaw and Jenny Logan as Fraulein Schneider.

Director, Rufus Norris has just directed Les Liaisons Dangereuses on Broadway. His credits also include Market Boy at the National Theatre and Festen, for which he was nominated for the Olivier Award for Best Director and won the Critics’ Circle Award for Best Director 2005 and the Evening Standard Award for Best Director 2004.

Design for Cabaret is by Katrina Lindsay, choreography by Javier de Frutos, lighting design by Jean Kalman, sound by Ben Harrison and musical direction by David Steadman.
