The saw guy

What were peoples impressions of this act?

I was impressed, but then ive never seen anyone play a saw before so dont know how good this was in the scale of things. Thats the thing with acts youve never seen before because you have nothing to compare it with. But i was impressed.

It wasn't that great. I expect with a bit a practise lots of people could play that, a lot of the time he wasn't going straight to the note, but sliding to it to find it. I was mostly impressed with the fact the bow didn't get damaged on the saw!

Yeah, I thought it was quite good, but that he seemed very vulnerable - which is always a bit worrying.

I thought it was going to be one of those awful embarassing auditions so it was a great surprise! I loved it but I think the novelty would wear off pretty fast - it wasn't 'nice to listen to' excatly.

He plays on the blunt side of a saw.

There is a good deal of history of playing the musical saw, it's not new. I remember seeing some guy on TV in the sixties playing it on the morecombe and wise show.
If you want comparisons, just look up 'musical saw' on youtube, plenty of examples there

The original star trek theme tune sounds a bit like a musical saw come to think of it

I thought it was amazing. I don't know if it can stand up as an act.. but I'm glad he got through for the sheer fact I was well impressed!

Same here. I can't really believe that Simon was so quick to critisize him, considering some of the acts that he has been very quick to compliment. I thought that the lad with the saw was much better than the fella with the banjo. The oldish fella I mean. If Simon didn't think the fella with the saw was good, then what exactly is he looking for then? I'm not saying he was outstanding, but he was definitely worth being put through though. I think he did miss the odd note or two, but this could of just been down to nerves due to the fact that he was trying to impress the judges to get through. And have you seen the way Simon looks at the other judges when they go in the opposite way of his decision? It's like, why are you not agreeing with me for? You should be agreeing with me, I'm always right. I think Simon needs to realise, he's not right all the time.
