1. YAY! MUSICALS!

2. Eeeeeek. I do hope she does that song justice. That's one of the best MT songs ever (at least I think so...). Fingers crossed for her... she was sitting so high in my estimations too- if she murders it she may just slip down my rankings. (& it was one of the ones I really wanted Sarah to sing... *stillpleasantlybitter*)

I've never read anything about what songs the girls were going to be singing that turned out to be true.

I'm all for them singing MT this week. All other genres seem inappropriate for this competition.

Really? The rumours on DS are usually pretty accurate...

I'm in two minds about that song for Sam. It's going to go terribly wrong, or very right. It could feasibly win her the competition if she nails it. I like Sam, but even if she's off with the vocal the panel will probably still orgasm over it.

I do hope they're given proper MT songs, and not movie-soundtrack-turned-musical songs though. Unfortunately I'm imagining Jodie with something like Footloose after Andrew's comments last week.

Have you ever tried singing it?! Seeeeeriously hard! But I guess Sam has the belt it requires.

She does have good belt on her actually so perhaps I was a bit harsh on her ability, still...

MT songs at last!
Wow, what a song for Sam. If she pulls it off it'll be fantastic. I agree with LaLaLaur, it's either going to be really great or a disaster.

Any idea what any of the other girls are singing (i.e Niamh )?

I agree - so difficult. Even Idina Menzel had difficulties with that ending. Sam does have the belt, but she's quite inconsistent and prone to shouting, so I'm worried already!

I personally don't find it that hard to sing- agreed it requires belt and lots of stamina and warming up, but it's not as if it's high

I think if she practises it enough it should be fantastic and could win her the show

I'm a singer too... I guess it depends on the range of your voice. But I would say Defying Gravity is pretty hard to master if you're an alto (which is for the most part where Nancy's voice resides, no?) The versions I've seen sheet music for are pretty high...

I'm so worried she gets shouty with it though. I'm a big Idina Menzel fangirl, this could be a bit of an "OWCH" moment.

yeah it does depend on range and there's been times I've sung along in the car, thinking I'm class cos i'm singing it (I get chills in my spine when I sing it/hear it- just love the song) and I completely f**k up the ending- you need biiiiig breaths... but personally I think she's gonna be ok!

That is true but DG is perfect for my range but I still find it hard, a lot of it has to do with the breathing and stamina, singing the song regularly really takes it's toll.

It would be hard for an alto but I don't think Sam is an alto tbh, her strength is belting out middle range notes.

Well yay for musical theatre week. After last week's dire effort I'm glad they've decided to let them do what they're good at.

As for Sam I dunno. It might be fine, she really does have a good belt. I'm never sure if she has anything at all in the way of head voice, but maybe she won't need it. How high does that number go, does anyone know? I'm sure it will be adjusted to her range anyway. But massive potential for tuning problems.

Sink or swim for her. If she pulls it off she'll be blazing into the finals, but if not, she could be on very shaky ground. Andrew will always have the 'oh but it was such a difficult song' card up his sleeve though, if she gets into trouble.

Well, obviously it suits some voices more than others, but I wouldn't call it an easy song to sing by any stretch of the imagination (I'm a boy, so I tend to not sing it myself ). I'm mainly concerned that Samantha'll a) shout it or b) miss the note (because even if it's not a particularly difficult note to hit, it's a bloody obvious one if you don't get it - see Idina Menzel at the Royal Variety Performance!).

Maybe I'm worried about nothing though. I do hope for her sake she does it well because it could do her the world of good in the competition.

the highest note I think is an E or an F, maybe I'm wrong but it's not too high

just needs lots of stamina and breathing in the right places!

and she needs to be really well warmed up!

Sam's belt is high though. Up to an F#. I have no idea how high Defying Gravity goes, but they can adjust it for her range.

Interestingly, the type of singer that can sing that song really well is the exact opposite of the kind of singer that I'd be looking for if I was casting Nancy.

Hmm...Coronation Song? The new "performance of the series". Sorry, don't really rate Sam's singing abilities. IMO, she's the weakest of the ones left.
