HD-HDMI-DVI inputs??????
I am considering getting a HD camcorder to film high definition footage, but my tv is on the wall and it is hard to get to the HDMI ports on the back. I do have a computer that plays blu ray disks so it is high definition, but it does not have a HDMI port on it. I do have a HDMI to DVI port http://www.twenga.co.uk/dir-Audio-Vi...I-HDMI-adapter
but how can i connect this to my computer??? i'm really confused as there is no port on my computer that the dvi port will connect to. Please can someone help me. Thank you. |

you post is a little confusing and your link doesnt work..
do you want to be able to play your footage direct from camcorder to tv? doesnt the camcorder just hook up to the computer via USB/FWire and you copy the files to computer and then view/edit them? what connections does the camcorder have? |

Well it has usb and HDMI, i was just wondering, if i transder high definition footage from the camcorder to my computer using the USB cable, with the video on the computer still be high definition?
BUT! - my older Sony (non-HD) camcorder only transfers VCD quality via it's USB socket, and I need to use a Firewire lead (not-supplied) in order to transfer DVD quality. However, it's possible, with it been a newer camera, that the USB is USB2 and is fast enough for HD?. |

I think that many camcorders are now using USB2 for full video transfer, in fact many don't have firewire anymore.
That should support HD as well as SD without issue. |

Oh and by the way. 99.9999999999% of DVI connectors you may find lurking round the back of a PC are OUTPUTs, ie to connect to a monitor to display images.
So they would be totally useless to connect to a HDMI output on a camera. All that would happen is the PC would be trying to send pictures to the camera while the camera was trying to send pictures to the PC and the two would meet somewhere in the middle and get into an unholy mess. |

I don't have a camcorder so this is probably nonsense but presumably using USB2/firewire the recording will be sent to the PC without recoding whereas if it went via HDMI it would be decompressed and would then need recompressing in the PC - degrading the picture quality.

Would it not be possible to connect to the HDMI on the tv and leave the cable permanently connected until needed?

Are you sure it doesn't have a firewire port for connection to a computer ? -Chris |

Connect the camcorder to your computer using USB or Firewire if it has it.
You can then copy the footage from your camera in full high resolution to your computer and show it using that. Connecting the camcorder to the TV won't allow you to edit the footage, which will be what you want to do. If you don't want to keep it on your computer, one you've edited it you'll be able to save it to DVD in high def for use on your computer, or Standard def for use on your DVD player. Windows Vista comes with all the software you need to accomplish this, I believe. But if you only have XP it is still possible with something like Pinnacle Studio 11, or other video capture/edit software. You can even mix in music, commentary, chapters and menus, etc. |
