Is it me or does anyone thing this exchange between The Doctor and Donna (when talking about The Doctor’s loss of his family

Doctor: When they died that part of me died with them. They’ll never come back, not now.

Donna: I’ll tell you something Doctor, something I’ve never told you before. I think you’re wrong.

Now while this could just be Donna talking about Jenny. I am thinking that this might be the writers putting in a reference for something in the future.

Of course it could just be me seeing something that isn’t there.

I thought that too! Then I blew it off thinking "Oh, Jenny!"...but...I've rewatched that scene and still think that something is up. Maybe the bringing back Gallifrey theory has some merit.

I might have misheard/misinterpreted when watching, but wasn't Donna referring to the Doctor's fatherly feelings, or ability to relate to a family, rather than to his actual family?

That's what I thought. Nothing to do with Gallifrey.

That is what it probably meant in relation to the story. But could the writers have been putting a hint by having the Doctor say ‘They’ll never come back, not now’ and Donna say ‘I think you’re wrong’ in reply.

Just a thought.

Yeah, she's referring to Jenny and, even if she wasn't, how much notice should we take of Donna's assumptions?

People seem to be missing the point. I am not saying that this is what Donna thought. I think that the writers (RTD) may have put this exchange in to make a hint on something that may happen in the future.

I know there's an old adage that writers shouldn't put anything into their work that doesn't have a purpose, but I think that this idea is being pushed to the absolute extreme in some cases on this forum.

I was too scared to say anything about it, but I must admit to being a little disappointed there were no photos...

Fair enough, I did miss your point. You may be right, but I'd be very surprised if the Doctor's real, blood-related family ever 'returned' (or appeared for the first time as far as we viewers are concerned, Susan notwithstanding). They might be setting up the return of the Time Lords, of course, as discussed elsewhere. But I think it's just Donna's 'Doc's big sister' character in action.

Actually I think that this is exactly what RTD would do. Go for the emotional moment of pain or pleasure sometimes both together. He is a fan of Buffy after all.

Me too! I was expecting some slash story of Captain Jack bumping into Jenny (depending what year Messaline was in, there's a fair chance of him getting his grubby mits on her).

Didn't he say "that'll never come back"? It would be strange to say "they died" then "they'll never come back". Anyway, it's pretty obvious Donna was referring to his parental feelings and I don't think the writer had any other intention in mind when writing it.

did he not say "that'll never come back" refering to the ability of love for his family etc

edit: oops sorry didn't realise the post above says exactly the same thing!

I re-watched that section on iPlayer and it is definitely ‘they’ll never come back’.

Also as I said before that maybe what Donna was talking about? But the writers may have another meaning in mind.

As for those comments some others are making about the thread title. Shame on you for thinking such disgusting thoughts.

Actually that was the furthest thing from my mind when writing that.

I couldn't resist taking a look myself, and he actually says "It'll never come back". It does look and sound a bit like "they'll" but it's definitely not.

I think we will have to watch on BBC3 on Friday with the subtitles on. It still sounds like they’ll to me.

Im sure there was a reference to the Medussa Cascade, not with the exact words but I'm sure the doctor said something on the lines of "I sealed it up with everything in it". I am probably wrong, must re watch the Doc's daughter but my ears opened to that. I was in the middle of rushing for food.

i have to say it sounded like "it'll never come back to me" and makes more sense.

I think this is a clue that they intend the death of the time lords to be undone - Another sign was the Doctor's talk of Paradoxes Toward the end of the episode

Absolutely!

[fanboy]There was a car in episode 4, cars usually have a jack in the boot so I think this means that Captain Jack will definitely be in the next episode.[/fanboy]
