Weird problem with loss of colours
NigelRichman

Hi,

The night before last my Humax would not wake up from standby (though the clock was running) either with the remote or the front panel control - so I resorted to the power switch.

All OK after that until last night when on a number of channels the picture went from normal into a colour washed mode (possibly loss of G in RGB) soon after switching channels. Change channels and OK for a short time but then colour fade. Bring up the EPG and the picture was colour washed but the EPG OK, same if pressing the Red button on BBC1.

Eventually powered off and on to sort it out but it was very strange. 1.0.21 firmware been running for a while, default reset at the time of upgrade. I checked the TV itself and the SCART cables for solid connection to the Humax and TV.

Anyone else had this problem or should I start to worry?

It doesn't sound familiar. My first instinct would have been to check the SCART leads which you have done. Let us know how it develops.

Sound like it's a problem internally, between the output of the MPEG decoders and the video mixer for the onscreen graphics.

I'd expect that to be with the graphics ICs, and repaired only by substituting the PCB. I'd be seeking rectification under warranty.

Are you seeing in monochrome?

HI,

No problem since I rebooted the other night.

It was not monochrome, just a pale coloured image - possibly the loss of one colour gun (green I think).

But it only seemed to affect the TV picture not the info from the Humax internals (menu, epg etc).

Also, if I changed channel it would be OK for a short while and then change colour. Change channel again and it was again OK for a while. I did think I found a channel it was OK on but could not prove that (thought it might be MUX related).

When the picture was in a box (having pressed the RED button on BBC 1) the TV image was in faded colour but around the edge of the image it was OK - must have been an interaction with the internal graphics.

I am inclined to thing it was a software glitch (here's hoping) as the unit is well out of warranty.
