Philips DVP5960 DVD Player Whistling?
My new Philips DVP5960 seems to whistle when in standby! I have upgraded the firmware, tried rebooting it, nothing. Whistling stops when taken out of standby ready to play a disc.
Any ideas?! |

anyone else?
its only a slight noise, but just concerned. Is it normal for dvd players or entertainment quipment to make a slight hum or whistle when in standby? i am using custom firmware for it which also worries me as if it breaks, and i cant flash it to original philips firmware, it may invalidate the warrenty. Or will it? |

Or will it? Just check the unit doesn't power off during the firmware upgrade,it's the same as pcs with bios and firmware upgrades, and yes you can flash it back the way and try out whatever firmwares you want,i used to do a dozen firmware upgrades in a month just for experimental purposes. The risk is small unless there is a power outage,i've never yet damaged an item doing a bios or firmware upgrade in the last 9 years,i've done a hundred or two now. |

I don't know what is wrong with it.
Normally sounds come from dvd recorders due to the inbuilt fan, yours is just a dvd player, probably no fan fitted,so who knows what the noise could be. |
