I like them, I've had them a few times when I went to Port Vale with Wycombe.

I like them with Sausage, Egg & Bacon

I looooooove them - I used to have a flat mate from Staffordshire and she used to bring some back with her when she visited her parents (I'm in the deepest darkest westcountry) - you can't buy them for love nor money down here. They are absolutely delicious!

Vile, vile, vile, vile, vile.

I moved to Stoke, everyone raved about them, they even have special shops for them there (oakcakes and pikelets)so thought I'd given them a try - someone recommended them with a fry up. Oh my God, they were absolutely disgusting. I never tried them again however, if we worked a Saturday in the office, someone used to do an 'oakcake run' and come in with a huge box full of the greasy things for everyone (except me) I know a guy from Stoke who now lives in Devon and he brings a supply home with him when he visits family.

Bizarrely, I found a coffee shop in Ipswich that sold them recently - they were trumpeted as 'direct from High Lane in Burslem' and 'as eaten by Robbie Williams'

What great food comes from Ipswich, then?!

I'm not from Ipswich, I just live here but we do have Jimmy's Farm which has some quality produce if that counts.

Oatcakes certainly don't count as 'great food' in my book. I cannot believe a glorified pancake is considered a frigging delicacy - although, on the other hand, having lived in Stoke on Trent, yes I can.

I love oatcakes - when we go and visit relatives in the midlands we always bring stacks home with us.

Sorry to dredge this up but....OMG my local Sainsburys is now selling them!!

Cheese and bacon filling for lunch...DIVINE!! Such happy memories too

I prefer to fry mine in a little butter but some people grill theirs and some heat them on a plate over a pan of boiling water.

Have one for brunch and you won't need to eat again until tea. A simple joy!

Oatcake shop on Church St, the best Oatcakes anywhere in the Potteries. Bit of a drive, but they're worth it.

Just found some pre-packed ones in my North London Tesco. What should I put in them then?

So they are back in supermarkets in the South? If so, fantastic!

Off to Sainsburys and Tesco tomorrow to check and stock up if I can!

@ eggplant - fried egg and baked beans on top, of course!

No, bacon and grated cheese, roll them up, microwave so the cheese melts and then sauce on top.

I have never actually tried them with egg and beans though, that does sound good!

My gf is from Staffordshire and they (her family) all love Oatcakes, I do like them, I usually have mine with cheese but I'm a bit intolerant to cheese recently (probably as a result of eating so many oatcakes) so haven't had them recently.

Her mum used to buy lots of packets for me to take home and my family seem to like them too. It's nice simple food.

They sell them in Tescos round here, when they're cold they're clammy things like wet dishcloths but I can eat them like that, better for you than pancakes, very short dates on them though, you usually have to eat them within a couple of days.

I was brought up on these, being a Stokie originally.

I can't get them here now, though, our local tesco stopped stocking them a couple of yeas ago.

I have found a place on line that sells the mix for them, so I was thinking of trying that, has anyone ever tried it?

They're nothing like those, they're like less-sweet pancakes with holes in and are stocked with the pancakes in the bakery aisle rather than with the biscuits.
