She was just interviewed by Steve Wright on Radio 2 and she said Michael "fighted his corner" - "fighted"?????

Says a lot for the training of barristers if basic grammar isn't covered - imagine putting your case forward and you said "x fighted for his rights", you'd be laughed out.

Slip of the tongue? It does happen.

Yes it does happen, but from a "trained barrister"??????? Someone who is being relied upon to put forward an argument in court in an articulate and precise manner? Please god keep her in her jewellery business (or whatever she says she plans to do) and out of the legal system - for all our sakes.

Barristers can be paid up to £200,000 but if she won the show she would have only been paid £100,000? I don't get the logic of some people Or is it just a case of wanting her 5 minutes?

It's just another example of them overselling themselves. I reckon she just fetched the tea and did the photo copying in a barrister's office.

Or maybe it is an example of how she was unable to defend herself in the boardroom?

It's possible she could have done the appropriate exams at Law School (BVC) and just not done the pupillage (but the term 'trained barrister' may be a bit liberal!)

Actually the pupillage is where you do the training so she's obviously got all the qualifications and training but just doesn't practice.

And I hope the poster who said that she only fetched tea and still claimed to be a barrister was joking because otherwise they are in no position to criticse someone on the basis of a mistake

Not everyone is motivated by money.

She may not have enjoyed being a barrister.

She has a BA (Hons) in Law and Economics from the University of Leicester and was in international car sales.
The other one who was in law was Nicholas De Lacy Brown who had an LLB from King's College London and had passed his bar exams.

Neither defended themselves well in the boardroom.

Oh ok and Jennifer M really was the best sales person in Europe was she? And Kevin really was a bank manager? I worked in a bank for 15 years and I know the he could not have reached management status in a bank at his age. And when you say "she's obviously got all the qualifications and training" - what evidence are you basing that on?

Okay , so you're comparing an actual job to a random claim made by someone , how does that work?

And I do know someone who is a bank manager and of a similar age to Kevin so it's not impossible. And I'm basing my other claim on the fact that she has said she is a trained barrister since without those you can't become one. You don't actually think that the casting team, the producers and SAS just look at the applicants CV's do you? The ones who make it onto a show have all their qualifications checked so it very unlikely that they could lie about anything.

Yes, a few very well established barristers can be paid up to £200,000 (more in some cases) but for the record all barristers are self-employed, without boring everyone to death they divide up and work in sets of chambers so all their administrative and general work is done by clerks/accountants/typists etc who do all the slog work and they concentrate on the law.

It can take several years to establish your reputation and many barristers don't even make enough each year so that they have to pay VAT. So a salary of £100,000 per annum would seem very attractive to some of them.

Kevin was a bank manager, my mum was his area sales manager. Get your facts straight!

As you are in a pedantic mood today then you'll extend me the same courtesy I am sure.

Kevin is 24, if he went to university then he'd just have started on the development ladder to fast track him, but he won't be a manager yet. If he joined straight after school, then he'd be years aways from being a manager. As for your acquaintance, well I cannot comment other than some banks have now adopted the American practice of over inflating people's titles - a Vice-President sounds grand but isn't in reality.

As for having their qualifications checked - how do you know? Are you basing this knowledge or just assumption?

I would refer you to my previous post. It is you that needs to check your facts! He was a manager at the Woking branch of Halifax!
