I have read on here it's best to set your Sky box and TV to RGB.
Well I can set the Sky box to RGB-OUT, but I can't seem to set my Samsung 40" series 5 LCD TV to RGB-IN. (model number of TV can be got if needed)
Does anybody have any advice?

There should be nothing to set, check the manual and it should tell you which of the scarts accepts RGB, at least one of them will.

The RGB SCART of the TV is usually SCART 1.
Also make sure the SCART is coming out from the "TV SCART" socket of the Sky Digibox, and not "VCR SCART".

It's connected through Scart 1 on the TV (and from TV Scart on the Sky box) but the picture looks rubbish when i set the Sky to RGB. Could it be a crappy scart lead?

Could be, or a faulty Sky box or a fault in the TV. You have set the TV to accept RGB, rather than just left it as is? There may be a setting in the TV's menu.

I had to have my Virgin Media SA STB changed because it wouldn't switch to RGB out.

Do you mean by rubbish compared to the PAL (Composite) setting or in general since many SD digital broadcasts fall well short of optimum for upscaling to HD resolutions.

Well if you can notice the difference then you have it connected up correctly, RGB is a higher spec connection method than Composite but perhaps your TV and your own visual preferences suit the softer more blurry digibox PAL output.
