i know some people knock her but to still be churning out brilliant records (some of the tracks on hard candy are fantastic) is amazing after 25 years. i can't think of another single artist, living or dead, who has managed the same. actually U2 maybe? even bands like rolling stones who still tour rely solely on old hits - they've produced nothing new which is anywhere near the standard of their early work.

She's certainly done it again with Hard Candy that's for sure. I was really dubious, heard lots of negative stuff about it and not being too keen on the Timbalands and Neptunes of this world I did not have high expectations at all, and indeed during my first listen I did think , mmmmm, bit ropey.....

....how wrong I was. The input of the above mentioned does not come across too strongly at all IMO , by my second listen I was humming the tunes and picking my faves, and now can't stop playing the CD. Ok , granted I think it is probably 2 tracks too long but that's just because I am not over keen on 'Incredible' OR 'Beat Goes On' .

I love Madonna, and love the album. Devil has to be one of her best ballady songs in ages.

(And is it wrong of me to actually like Kanyes rap in Beat Goes On more then Madonnas parts )

She was great 20 years ago.Now she's just a headline grabber and in my opinion hasn't released anything worthwhile in 15 years.I'm a fan btw.

Sounds like it. How can you be a fan if you don't like an artists work?

She's a living legend and has outlived (music wise) many of her contempories from the 80's and 90's She's doing as well now as she's ever done

Why? This is an open forum for everyone to discuss their views freely. How can you have a one-sided debate. It would be like a football match with one team Having said that I DONT hate her. One of my all time fave songs is the club mix of Like A Prayer. I really liked Confessions and Music at first, but I think her ability to get all the best collaborators, producers, set designers, dancers etc, hide the fact that she herself, whilst being in good shape ( if a BIT too muscular) for a 50 yr old, is a fairly average singer and what ive heard of Hard Candy is pretty average. She just happens to have a very large and loyal following, who help her sell loads of records and sell out concerts very quickly. Just my opinion of course

I went to see her in tour last year and she was so fantastic that I just got tickets for her tour this year!!

Can't wait.

I have adored her since I was 5 years old - I am now 24!

She's been around my whole life bringing out excellent, catchy songs.

She's an icon, that goes without saying.

Vocals were a bit sour at the Radio 1 Big Weekend though weren't they.. had to turn the radio down fearing my wine glasses would shatter. *ouch*

She truly is the QUEEN!!! You are right for all her haters...who else is still consistently churning out brilliant tracks and having number 1 singles and albums as well as selling out stadiums across the world in a matter of hours!

I have seen her live 3 times, 1993, 2001 and 2006 and will definetly see her this Year as well when she is being Sticky and Sweet!

She is truly at her best live on stage in her own shows. I agree that some of the vocals at Radio 1 were dodgy but then so were some of those by many other artists.

LOVE HER!!!

You should have titled this 'Madonna appreciation thread'. Negative comments are not allowed in appreciation threads.

Man that sounds easy we should all go out and have careers like Madonna, how hard could it be?

How can you say you're a fan if you don't think she's released anything decent in 15 years. That takes you back to Erotica. Do you mean you used to be a fan?

^ Can't you still be a fan if you prefered her older stuff?

I definately did... it was up till Ray Of Light for me. Granted, I haven't listened to any of her albums all the way through since then ..... but none of the singles have inspired me to buy them !?

I would still count myself as a fan though ... she released 7 albums up until then, only 4 after. Hope that's ok

OAPs always prefer stuff from the 'good old days'.

I prefer modern pop music, but I still love her classic 80s tunes as well.

Knowing what people want to hear + being a good business woman = Madonna success.

Massive PR machine.
Courting controversy
That's what keeps her in the spotlight

She has had a lot of legal trouble too

She isn't anywhere near as "original" as many of her fans would have you believe.

Easy Street Records v. Madonna (copyright infringement)
Acquaviva v. Madonna (copyright infringement)

Iving L Williams v. Madonna (copyright infringement)

Rich Kidd Music Publishing, Inc. v. Madonna (copyright infringement)

BTW Cliff Richard has had hits in every decade since the 1950's does that make him the greatest ever male singer ?

Madonna's never been original, she just has the knack for copying something, and moulding it into her own style imo.
