Hi Guys,

My Mp3 Player has gone wrong AGAIN with the Hard Drive error 3 one in 4 years. This is the third Mp3 player from creative I have had and now I am seriously considering the Apple Ipod.

The problem is Idon't know which one to go for and I don't know much about them. I know theyhave been arround and I have steerd clear of them as I think theyre cheap and tacky and the last apple product I bought broke. I want one that:

5th Generation (I think thats latest one)
Plays Music/ Videos
Plays Movies
Plays Games
Calendar/ Date/Time
Syncs with PC
Ease of use
Long batery life
Stores loads of songs videos etc
Charge via docking station on desk

Can someone help me. I have seen this on Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...pf_rd_i=468294 or this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Apple-iPod-V...0924936&sr=1-3

Thanks

I'm no ipod expert
but IMO its brilliant, had my Apple iPod nano since Christmas, find its fantastic and its only the 4GB

Its used daily to and from work, while out running , plus used daily at home on speaker system's etc I can't fault it.
My husband and son also have nano's and both well pleased

hope this helps

Also find the team at the apple website great if you need advice.

Depends what you want to use it for.

It was a Vision:M you have/had wasn't it?

If you plan on using the iPod for video, you'll find it plays a lot less formats than the creative does/did. No DivX/XVid support on the iPod I'm afraid .....

Have you tried re-formatting the device before scrapping it? That might help http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question...1133547AAzTWKU

I got an iPod Nano for my GF, who only uses it for music, and I must say it is a lovely device, within its limits. If you are happy with having to use software to transfer music, and limited video options, I would say go for an ipod.

When you switch it on it makes a clicking sound which comesfrom the Hard Drive

If it's the third hard drive failure in 4 years and your last apple product broke, then maybe it's worth looking into how you use the device.

It must take some serious abuse (vibration, dropping it perhaps, maybe heat or humidity) - something must be causing this to happen.

If I were you I'd be considering a flash player. They are more expensive in terms of £ per Mb but they have no moving parts to break.

Hard drive players break. I've never had my HD based players last much more than a year.

My small flash players have also never lasted that long either. It seems common for these devices to break after a year.

Dunno but I never drop it?

What I mean is, whether you drop it or not, any mp3 player is going to go wrong after about a year.

Be it hard drive, or battery suddenly dying and not retaining power.

None of my MP3 players have ever broken.

My oldest one is a CD based one from donkeys years ago ... still works.

My Creative Muvo2's (x3) are all 4/5 years old, still all work fine. Battery life doesn't really seem to have diminshed either.

My Cowon A2 is a couple of years old. Still as good as the day I got it.

My wifes iPod mini did need a new battery .... and the control buttons stop working intermittently now, but it does still go.

Her 30gb iPod video is a couple of years old and still as new really.

If you've had 4 go on you then you're either incredibly unlucky, or you doing something to them they don't like - whether you realise it or not.

Guess you're lucky. I treat all my possessions with great care too, never drop, never expose to rain, keep protected etc.

My iPod photo died a year and 3 days after I bought it. My Philips flash mp3 lasted a bit longer, a year and a half. My Creative flash lasted a year. My 1st gen 1 year 4month old Zune is still working but the battery discharges quickly (never dropped, never overcharged). My Argos cheap flash mp3 lasted a record 2 weeks.

The same has applied to my portable DVD players (Panasonic and Philips). They've lasted about a year before they've started to behave oddly.

Older electronics seems to last much longer - e.g. I've had a personal walkman for 10 years, my videocamera lasted 5 years.

Might be to do with use shortening lifespan, I don't know.

I'd go on you being incredibly unlucky rather than everyone else being lucky.

Modern portable electronics should last a lot longer than a year in in my experience and that of the people I know, they do.

That said, my advice to the OP stands. If you've had 4 HD based players and 4 fail with HD problems then a flash based player might well solve your issue.

Don't subscribe to "whether you drop it or not, any mp3 player is going to go wrong after about a year".
