Is HD worth the money?

I'm assuming that similar threads are all over the forum but never mind. I have decided to eBay my Xbox 360 as it's just been gathering dust to be honest (i.e. I never use it), I'm thinking about getting a small (preferbly around 22") HDTV for my room with the proceeds. At the moment I am using a 19" CRT telly which we've had for about 3 years and in all fairness I'm happy with it.

I'm also considering getting a Blu-Ray player eventually but for the time being I'll only be using it for my Sky box, DVD recorder and occasionally my PS2. Is it really worth it? Will it make much difference?

In particular I am considering this or maybe even this. It'd be great if anyone could recommend either model or even something else. Are they any good for viewing SD equipment? Like I said, it's only for my bedroom so I don't want to fork out on some gigantic thing.

Basically all I want to know is whether or not I should bother (in your opinion)? I'm quite new to this HD craze so try not to confuse me with load of technical jargon.

If you are buying even a modest flat screen then HD resolution is a given but as you say you are happy with the CRT and only have SD sources why spend money you don't have too?

In a year or so then both display hardware and HD sources will be cheaper and if you sell the 360 now you will get more money then if you hold on to it and put it to one side for use later

I also forgot to add that I'm thinking about putting a Freesat PVR on my Christmas list. I understand that I'll be getting at least 2 HD channels by then, although I can't see myself watching them that often in all honesty, so maybe I should consider it at the start of next year? Especially if I can grab a bargain in the January sales.

I think I'll take your word for it, I'll probably put my profit from the 360 into my savings account until I can find an even better deal. However, I would still be more than happy to get a few more opinions.

You understand wrong, isn't any possible HD on DTT not due until 2009?. and there's also no TV's or PVR's available that will receive such transmissions.

If you want HD get Freesat HD or Sky HD.

What I dont understand is why you have a PS2 and then want to buy a blu-ray player when the best value for money upgrade is a PS3, thus making the purchase of an HD tv more appealing.

This is a micky-take right? - who the hell would be daft enough to try and buy a 22" hdtv?

If you're serious then nah you would'nt see any difference on the size screen you're looking for - stick with your 19" crt.

He doesn't say how far he sits/lies from the screen so it may be perfectly reasonable to have a 22" HDTV - equally it may not be but it's by no means a gizzit.

I have a couple of 17" HD screens on my desk and they need to be HD.

Incidentally a 22" LCD will appear 30% bigger (nearly) than a 19" CRT so the difference is significant.

LCDs aren't worth the money WITHOUT HD. HD is their saving grace.

I thought the 60GB PS3 was PS1 and PS2 compatible?

Thats why I said the "current" PS3.

The 60Gb version is long deleted

And even that only plays 70% of UK PS2 games

I play ps1 and ps2 games on mine, including remote play through my psp.

Never had any problems with compatability, but mine is the 60gb so dont know if that makes a difference.
