Hooked up my new freesat box to my home Cinema system with an optical cable, but to my untrained ear I'm not sure if I'm getting 5.1 surrond sound. The Home Cinema displays a Dolby Digital logo, showing a centre, right & left speaker when watching Freesat, not the 5 speaker display which it shows if, eg, I were to play a 5.1 DVD. Am I getting 5.1, and if not what do i have to do to do so?

Should add that I also have hooked up the Home Cinema directly to my TV with the basic Red/White audio leads; would this be affecting my getting 5.1 on the freesat?

One final question- I also have a BT Vision Box which also has optical connection- is there any way of connecting two devices to a Home cinema to get 5.1 sound from both, without having to disconnect one/connect the other each time?

Any advice much appreciated.

ok, does your tv have a optical audio output? If so i would hook that up to your home cinema, your phono or red and white calbes will make your audio signal into 'analogue' whereas your digital optical cable will be digital which will be much higher quality, the sound will be fuller and richer.
from personnal experience I have everything (PS3, xbox 360, Telewest box) going into the tv, mostly via HDMI and then digital optical to the receiver. I did have it going to the receiver through phono (red/white) and the sound quality increase was really cool going to digital. Not too sure about freesat though.
