Blu Ray Home distribution
I have a home distribution system where the SKY, Video, DVD player and all TV terrestrial rf's are distributed to all TV's in the house. The terrestrial antenna is tuned to Sandy Heath. The Sky is output on channel 53, the video on channel 55 and the DVD is distibuted via an rf modulator using a scart input on channel 65. These are all vacant channels without interference.
I have just changed my DVD player for a Blu Ray player. I've used the same set up with the modulator but the modulator output is very distorted and will only display in B&W. I've tried a new modulator and also changed the modulator output to all other free channels but it's still the same. I tried connecting the scart input to the modualtor direct into the TV and the picture is perfect so there is no problem with the Blu Ray output. I tried connecting the rf output cable from the modulator direct to the TV with all other connections removed (modulator loop thru) and the picture is still very distorted. The SKY engineer who recenely did an HD upgrade was baffled. Does anyone have any clues for me?? |

Bluray HD via RF?
Certainly the PS3 only offers outputs via HDMI or scart or phono - no RF |

To answer some of the questions posed already:
Output from the Blu Ray is svideo and l and r audio to scart input on the modulator. The point of doing this is so I don't have to put a dvd player in each room. I know I won'tget HD on the rf output. I have obeyed the 1, 5 and 9 channel taboo rule. I've tried the modulator on lots of other channels. |

ok so its S-video rather than scart
what player is it ? video and dvd not followed the 1,5 and 9 channel taboo.....but that doesnt matter you isolated the other channels by trying them have you tried Blu Ray scart to rf modulator ? |

Bluray dics come in 2 versions in Europe, Multi region ABC and Region B, If the Studio distributor takes short cuts the Multi region BD will be shipped to all ENGLISH speaking countries, if they dont use short Cuts then the REGION for Europe, Region B is used.
Turn to the Back cover of the BD, If back the cover has the REGION ABC logo on it and not just Region B there will be NO PAL signals encoded to the BD, ONLY NTSC, this does mean that any TV'S that do not support NTSC via COMPONENT, S-VIDEO or COMPOSITE, will display in black and white. To get around this you will need other EQUIPMENT, that will convert NTSC to PAL, most (?) DVD recorders allow you to select which format (dig about in their menus) PAL or NTSC to output signals at allowing the inputs to be changed to the selected new format allowing for a temp solution. ( RGB output is disabled for BD, Sony want the Pirates to buy PC BD burner drives to Copy from and not PS3s |

The output of the Blu Ray is SVideo and L & R Audio. I have used a lead that converts these to Scart for the modulator input. There is no scart output on the Blu Ray which is a Sony BDP-S300.

Not sure if this is important, but SVIDEO is still governed by the NTSC/PAL rules. The output type may be changeable in the HD-DVD players setup menu somewhere.

I'm surprised the player makes any difference... the RF output from the modulator should remain the same regardless of what is being put into it.....just input a composite video input from bluray into modulator and it should work. However that may be the problem, do Bluray players support composite video output?
I doubt RGB or SVideo will be accepted by an RF modulator... only composite video I'd imagine..... there's also little benefit as it's being displayed as RF, the lowest form of video. How is the SVideo output being converted to composite and then put into the RFmodulator? |

1) The BD is outputting NTSC (as suggested elsewhere). 2) Your lead doesn't 'convert' S-Video to SCART, it's for connecting to an S-Video enabled SCART socket, so you're only feeding the luminance (B&W) part of the picture to your modulator. |

I would suggest there are two possibilities here:
1) The BD is outputting NTSC (as suggested elsewhere). 2) Your lead doesn't 'convert' S-Video to SCART, it's for connecting to an S-Video enabled SCART socket, so you're only feeding the luminance (B&W) part of the picture to your modulator. What do either format have to do with HD? |

Why would a Bluray disc be encoded for PAL or NTSC?

I've just sossed it. I've been setting it up with a Blu Ray disc running in the player. Blu Ray discs are copy protected and so the picture quality out of the modulator is distorted and in B & W. If I run a normal DVD it's perfect.
