DTI6300 - how to disable fan
DannySAllen

Hi all,
I'm very pleased with the DTI6300, the picture quality seems far better than my previous Digihome box. BUT in this day and age they shouldn't be producing kit where the fan is constantly on when the unit is on standby and the disk isn't spinning.
Does anyone know if you can put the fan on a timer so that it stops say 1 minute after the disk stops or have it only on when the disk is spinning ?
Does anyone have the 'engineers code' ? There may be something in those menus.
Cheers, Danny

Assuming the CPU is running at all times to allow the box to wake up for information downloads even when on standby, presumably it needs to be cooled.

My previous box (a Digihome) was quiet as a quiet mouse when on standby and the disk was not running, the fan stopped when the disk stopped. Also my non disk Echostar also has no fan running at all, so clearly it is possible to keep these cool with just a heatsink....

The disc does spin all the time though, or as least it does on the models I've seen.

As for disabling the fan - unless your prepared to create your own ventilation holes in the top and bottom of the cover, I'd leave it running.

these normally work the same as pc fans, small connector plugged into the motherboard, unplug it,it stops spinning.
The white connector should be sitting very near the fan,it obviously means taking the lid off the unit and voiding any warranty you may have.
If it's a standard size you may be able to fit a very quiet fan as replacement, maplin would be the obvious place to find a fan.
