I don't know...it is still more choosing than having a song totally thrust on them that they are not at all familiar with.”
Choose only describes one final stage in a process. If i say to Sam last week you would sound really good singing X next week and she comes back next week and says I would like to sing X she chose it. Similarly if Rachel says i was thinking of singing Y or Z and someone says how about P - thats also still her choice. If Jessie then comes up with dire choice number 121 and no one tells her its dire thats also her choice.
Rachel has experience of auditions too so I would expect her to make a more puposeful choice that showcased her voice.
The better answer would be to find a song each that let everyone shine or to find one that equally required them all to do what they are suspect at doing. This show habitually creates an uneven playing field by giving some girls the irrelevant or the impossible or the unrewarding and allowing others to coast in their comfort zone. After weeks of people getting killer songs and songs that ALW admits were wrong for them, its not surprising if people's eyebrows rise when only one Nancy makes a brilliant song choice and the 2 in closest compettition with her make decidedly bad ones.
