Whatever happened to 'Nice'?

Hi all,

I've just been watching series 1 on youtube (thank you to whomever mentioned that wawawahidah has uploaded hundreds of videos!!) and can't get over how Nice they all are!

Paul absolutely refuses to name anyone to be fired

The project managers all congratulate their colleagues and apologise to people they pick for firing.

Of course there are huge arguements, but all of them are exceptionally nice.

What has happened since then? Are people just generally ruder to each other now? calling each other lazy and fibbers, or do they just pick horrible people and egg them on to be more horrible to each other?

We must have been watching them at the same time. I re-watched them over the week-end and couldn't believe how far removed this series is from the first one. I think one of the problems could be that I got the impression that several of the candidates didn't really want/need the job or the "fame".

I also liked that we did see a lot more of the interaction between the candidates in the house. As you say there were huge arguments but they were not as personal and nasty as this series. Even Adele who I loathed at the time wasn't as bad I remembered her to be. Mind you I'd forgotten how much I disliked Saira and even watching for a second time I was so glad that she didn't win!

I'm working my way through series 1 too, it's really good, thankyou to the person who uploaded them! It's like early big brother, no one knew what they were expecting so they came in with a different attitude, and most people weren't looking for fame and media careers .The candidates were actually serious business people who understood the difference between business and personal lives. And they were confident without completely overexaggerating...

I guess with so many people applying these days the producers are picking the big characters who end up as caricatures of themselves...but it does make for great entertainment none the less!

You have convinced me to go find them and watch, it is the only series i haven't seen as yet. I found the apprentice when in started its 2nd series.

Hi there Katenutzs,

its easy, do a search for wawawahidah and then click on the first link.

She is very clever because there is a little link you can press which says play all or autoplay or something and all the little clips join together so that you can watch the whole epsiode almost uninterrupted without doing anything else.
Rivetting viewing!!

I just watched one last night in which the winners all went over and shook hands with the losers and patted them on the back!!!

Oh I completely agree about Adele!! I remembered her as this harridan, but she was just a pussy cat compared to some on the ones there now!

Saira: love her or hate her, she really really tried didn't she? I didn't remember that she and Paul had to be separated like school kids because they were fighting so much during the tasks!

This year they do all seem to be trying to portray an 'image' rather than just be their professional selves!!

The difference between series 1 and now is the general decline in the talents of those selected - the current bunch are far from the elite of the commercial world - all they have is their attitude and abilities to spin! There's nothing in them.

In previous series the candidates were picked for their skills.

Now they're picked for... well, I'm not sure exactly!

Thank you for that, I will definately try it tonight. Looking forward to it now as everyone seems to have positive things to say about series 1

Ratings

I can remember being pleased when the programme got moved to BBC1. Now, I wish they'd kept to BBC 2.

Spoiler
Yes, and she then goes and picks him for her final team! Which led to the "attempted" firing!
Superb!

I've put it in the spoiler for those people who are watching the series for the first time.

I think it's the way it seems to go with any reality TV show; the producers always seem to feel they have to "shock". Once you've gone down that road, you have to get more and more extreme each series to try and get the same result. It happened with Big Brother, to the point where I eventually gave up on it. It's happening with The Apprentice, though it's not yet gone so far down that road. You can even see it happening with these Andrew Lloyd Webber talent shows; on the first one, How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria, who was unfailingly kind to the contestants, even when giving criticism, which was always constructive. Now he seems to feel he has to insult them.
