  • I'd Do Anything
Which other musical reality shows should the Bbc do

There's talk about I'd Do Anything being the last one they do but if there were others which ones would you like to be done

For me I would like to see Hairspray with 2 roles up for grabs those of Tracy and Edna. Love to see the role of Elpeba from Wicked done also they should have a bash at doing Frankenfurter in Rocky Horror and Willy Wonka in Charlie And The Chocolate Factory

Les Miserables

i think they'd continue thrend having a show where the winner isthe first to perform the role in that production therefore that would eliminate show already in production

should that i'd like to be done would be Jesus Christ Superstar [Jesus], West side Story [Maria & Tony] and My Fair Lady [Eliza]

however if they did do current productions i'd pick Hairspray [Tracy], Cabaret [Sally & MC] and Sweeny Todd [i know it's technically not in production but film has only just been released [Todd & Lovett]]

Ditto - never Les Mis. I don't want sub-par performers in that musical!!

I don't think they're doing another one, and I think that's probably the best - IDA was hardly a roaring success.

West Side Story for me, or Rocky Horror!

I thought the BBC gave a no comment on the story that they wouldn't be doing anymore? ^^

If they do, I'd be more interested in them casting a Judas in JCS than a Jesus to be honest.

There is not much more mileage in it, that's for sure.

"Nigel, you could still be Judas!" - Sorry, but that had to be done.

I heard a rumour a while back the next casting was Dorothy for Wizard Of Oz, don't know where this circulated from though.

I think this stems from the rumour that ALW's next WE show is to be Wof Oz. But haven't heard he's using this casting format.

I'd personally love for it to be Sunset Boulevard, looking for Joe Gillis, which would be interesting considering it is an ALW musical, and JB has played this character more than once.

I presume they’re looking for shows with similar formats to Sound of Music, Joseph, and Oliver. 3 different musicals have some things in common:

-All are family friendly
-Have lots of children in the cast
-Were not running in the WE before casting began
-Previous shows being revived

But I wouldn’t be surprised if they stopped after IDA. That would be a wise choice. Repeating a television phenomenon too many times would ruin the fun we’ve had so far so better to bow out gracefully while they still can.

I agree - thats what i noticed about the 3 musicals they have done, they are all family musicals that basically your average joe could go and see and take ther kids, rather than the more serious musicals that tend to be more for MT fans.

I don't think thats true - but I do think that this style of casting being repeated too often will leave problems for the West End eventually.

I think the format has done it's job of bringing the West End into people's thoughts again, and the timing of HDYSAPLM was purposeful for this (after the London 05 bombings which caused problems for many-a-shows).

Give the format a break for a few years, and it'll be worth it.

i would like to see them do it for

batboy
rent (the origional version, not remixed version)
pricilla queen of the dessert
jeckyl and hyde
godspell
celtic dreamer

None, I think this series should kill these shows off quite honestly. It really is not up to the standard of ADWD.

Yes! The songs in SB are brilliant. Plus Denise would be thrilled about eye candy

Seconded.
It will cause a lot of trouble if they end up casting ALL shows like this.

Official confirmation? Source or link please?

I'd love them to cast Galinda and Elphaba for Wicked. Then maybe Mimi and Roger in Rent? Or Joanne and Maureen? It would have to be the original Rent though. Not that AWFUL remix. They ruined most of the songs.

To be fair to the remix, I think some of the new versions were better than most people say they were - I think that the original was too engrained in people's heads, that's all. OK, I'll admit, things like What You Own were absolutely murdered, but I don't think Tango: Maureen was all that bad, and *controversial opinion alert*, I like the idea of what they did to Out Tonight, as well, I just think the casting of Mimi was a bit... off. Mind you, I never saw Ruth Aguilera in the part - she might have been a lot better - but even Siobhan Donaghy's Out Tonight grew on me quite a bit.

They seem to think on the Whatsonstage forum that it will be Superstar.

And although the bbc may no longer want to do this, ALW could always work with another channel...
