Paul wasn't doing it for IRN - he was at the game for RTE though.

Just out of curiosity, did his name come up on the IRN reporter list or did you just hear him on RTE and put 2 + 2 together?

I have no access to the IRN list but he reported for RTE and also did a preview for Newstalk 106FM who have always taken IRN. This double approach to determining reporters seems good to me.

There has been a bit of a change around since World Sports Communications / Sky News Radio got the IRN contract for football reporters.

Just to clear it up, I was actually doing the game for them (as well as Talksport) and Paul was sat next to me doing RTE.

Loving your work on this thread, by the way Ian. Proper dedication.

Thanks. Newstalk 106 definitely introduced the reporter at Villa Park as Paul Ashton although I admit it didn't sound much like him.

I have noticed that one or two correspondents (e.g. Dave Donaldson and Naz Premji) seem to have disappeared and thankfully are appearing elsewhere.

Do Newstalk 106 take the IRN reporters then?

If so, I'm delighted they got my name wrong lol

On Sunday afternoons, it broadcasts Premier League Radio but does (or did) a preview of the second game via IRN at about 3:30pm. It generally does some updates from IRN on a Saturday. It may be a link with INN (which is, I think, the Irish equivalent of IRN) but Ariusuk may be able to help here. (If there is a third Premier League game on a Sunday, then Newstalk also updates/updated via the IRN correspondent.

He would probably explain it better, but in a nutshell....

Newstalk haven't had a domestic supplier since going national in 2006, but had been supplied by INN prior to then - both subscribe to IRN

Sorry Akilduff, I did mean you. That'll teach me to try to do things in my office from memory.

Indeed - but they stick with the same frequencies for each team each week...

The AM transmitter is in the Portsmouth locality, so the signal is much stronger there than in Southampton.

Pompey are on FM though when they play at any time other than 3pm Saturday (which is quite often!).
