I'm very " Basic " where it comes to computers so please bare with me!

I wish to download music which i have on my Computer onto a CD so i can play it in my car ect.

But how? Do I need to buy anything extra for me able to do it?

Or do i just need the blank CD and i can do it?

Obviously you need a CD burner in the PC to start with!

But you can do all the burning to CD with Windows Media Player if you don't have any thing else installed. Media Player should guide you through the process.

One thing to be aware of is the dreaded DRM (Digital Rights Management). Some downloaded content has a licence that controls what you can do with it. Some only lets you play it on the PC you've downloaded it to. Some let you load it onto an mp3 player or the like.

But it might be that some of the tracks you've downloaded don't let you burn them to CD. Most of the time it is a case of suck it and see. if you're lucky you won't have any problems but you might come up against the odd track that won't burn. Just something to be aware of.

It is called "burning" not "downloading".
Put a blank cd-r or cd-rw into your cd or dvd drive on your computer.
Select all the files you want to burn and then click burn in the tool bar.

OK if you are that basic you will have to be aware of a few things that most of us probably take for granted:

CD Burner - Can your computer record CD's as well as play them? Easiest way to check is to right click on the CD drive under "My Computer". The drive should be described as CD-RW. If not you can pick drives up fairly cheaply.

Music Format - You say you have the music on your computer and want to play it in your car. What format are the tracks in? If they are mp3 then does your car CD player play mp3 CD's? If so then no problem - if not then you will have to convert the mp3's to wav files before burning. There are loads of free converters. This one is pretty simple.

Others have covered DRM and the burning process (this is a link to a basic Windows guide) so good luck. We all had to start somewhere.

a) Your CD drive might also be described as a 'CD-R drive', 'CD-drive', 'DVD-RW' drive or a combination of these when you right click on its icon in 'my computer'.

b) Put a blank CD-R (they sell them in WHSmith) into this drive (on the front of your computer tower). Don't use a CR-RW as it might not work in your car.

c) You shouldn't need to do any converting. Just go to 'windows media player', click on 'burn', choose 'audio CD' and then drag the music files you want to put on the CD to the little menu that appears (in the order you want them to play back). Click on 'burn now', wait for it to finish, take it out and put it in your car. Voila!

Just curious, but how did you get the music on your computer in the first place? Is it a pc or laptop? Unless it is a few years old it MUST have a cd burner with it. Once you have done it once you will realise how easy it is and then you wont be able to stop doing compilations for your car
