If you have the speakers too close to the turntable/stack system which is playing the vinyl on a surface which vibrations travel through easily, will this cause it to skip and repeat itself?

Yes, the turntable should be on an isolated shelf or support system some distance away from the speakers.

Buses going over the stupid speed bumps along our road does not help as everything in the house vibrates, plus things such as ornaments in other houses have been known to fall and break as a result of this! So i understand that if i happen to be playing one while a bus comes

And yes i do like playing decent music LOUD but im not one of these people who do it all day every day. I do play music that i like fairly loud but not anywhere near the point where it annoys everyone. The only time i will play music very loud is when the house is vacated with only me left and the neighbours on our left are out (their house is joined to ours the one on the right is not)

The best way to absorb shock is to put the turntable player on a slap of marble, which floats in a few litres of liquid mercury. Oh, or use a CD player.

You get the same problem with CD players as well, just no where near as bad.

The only trouble is, I've never seen a CD player capable of playing vinyl records....

Wow - that's not an April Fool's joke is it? Not what you would call "budget", though!

And isn't it a tad ironic that a device that boasts about it's purely analogue credentials has a demo CD to prove how good it is

Hi DXRulz

Sorry if you thought I was having a go at you. I too like music VERY LOUD - so you can feel it! It was just that I noticed that you too are in So'ton so was attempting a joke.

Having said that I have never experienced a jump on vinyl due to volume (the cat attempting to jump onto the deck has produced the odd one though!). Mind you, I am not on a bus route so should count myself very lucky.

As a matter of interest, do you know any good places to buy vinyl in our area these days? I have been looking for LCD Soundsystem, Sound of Silver on vinyl. I do not really trust buying black plastic over the internet

I am collecting some of the old music i like so if you are anywhere near to or can get to the City Centre easily, there is an Oxfam Music Shop and most of the shop is covered in Vinyl, thats where i get mine from or other charity shops.

I put a piece of foam (1/2" thick) under my turntable... helps with vibrations...
