I have just upgraded my DMR-EH50 to the DMR-EX78EB as the EH50 was only analogue.
I have connected the EX78EB to the BT Vision Box as follows:-

BT AUX scart ---EX78 TV scart

BT TV scart --- TV AV1 scart

DVD discs play ok.

Digital TV from the EX78 will not output.
It has tuned all the channels ok and the Guide opens the menu with everything on it.
However when I select a channel and try to view everything defaults back to the BT box.

I want to be able to view and record Digital through the EX78 as well as the BT box.

My choice of scart connections are as follows:-

EX78 - AV1 (TV) & AV2 (Ext)

BT Box - TV & AUX

TV - AV1 & AV2

Any suggestions how I should connect to solve the problem?

Thanks.

The EX78 records programmes ok using the TV Guide.

The problem is that when I try to watch a digital programme using the TV Guide on the EX78 the output on the TV defaults to the BT box.
However if I put the BT box in standby the TV outputs the EX78 digital signal.
I can change channels manually using the remote.
If I then try to use the EX78 TV Guide it defaults back to the BT box which being off outputs a blank screen.
My conclusion is that there appears to be a conflict between the EX78 TV Guide and the BT box.

Something I'll just have to get used to.

Anyone else experienced a similar problem?

The reason TV defaults to the BT box is you connected TV out from BT to your TV so unless BT box is on stand by you can't watch EX78 through same scart.

I would connect as;

BT TV scart ------- EX78 (VCR-DVD) scart

then

EX78 TV scart --------- TV AV1 (RGB enabled) scart

That would pass through RGB signal when EX78 is on stand by, so you get a very good BT box signal and at the same time you can view and record digital through the EX78 when it is on.

However the bad news with that set up is if you try to record freeview from EX78's internal tuner it would lock the box and not allow you to view BT box until that recording finishes.

The good news is you can do vice versa, you can still access to EX78's internal tuner or playlist regardless of whether BT box is recording or not. You can even record from BT box to EX78 and still access to EX78's digital channels or recorded programme list.

This only applies to manual recording. If you do timer recording , you can use the RGB pass-through facility to watch the BTV box.

To achieve this there is one important pre-requisite: The Power save mode must be OFF... as RGB pass through cannot occur with the power save mode invoked.

You can change the setting as necessary in :
Functions / To others / Setup / Others

You will probably find a much more predictable and useful switching behaviour if on the EX78 you goto:

Functions / To others / Setup / Connections / and change AV1 output from RGB 2 to RGB 1
