Problems with a Samsung DVD R-128 recorder
I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice.
I have the aforementioned DVD recorder and at the moment I am trying to copy my VHS tapes to DVD. I have it set up so a scart lead is going from the VCR's line out to the Recorder's line in, and then another from the Recorder's line out to my TV so I can watch the video while it is copying. However, when I press play on the VCR and then record on the DVD, one of two things happens, I either get a black screen or a frozen picture from the VHS tape. I press stop on the DVD recorder and it crashes, meaning I have to unplug and replug it and try again. This happens at least 3 out of every 5 attempts. Another case was this morning, I left a video copying overnight and went this morning to finalise the disk. The buttons weren't working, so I had to unplug it again and then when I tried to finalise the disk, the recorder was saying "cannot finalise, no title list found". I physically checked the disk and you could see that something had been burnt to it, but the recorder was not recognising it. I've got about 200 old VHS tapes to get through and this is really doing my head in, can anyone help? Many thanks. |

AV 1 goes to telly and AV 2 is from the video to dvd recorder
there is not really anything in the manual to help and just in case you have the scarts the wrong way round ? also is it copyrighted tapes you are trying to record ? firmware/ software update for it http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/do...ia_cd=03010700 and looks as if that came out in January this year if the tapes are copyrighted you may be cheaper buying the film in Tesco at £3 to £5 or get a scart which takes the macrovision off |

I'll have a fiddle with the Scart leads, but that just seemed the logical way for it. But I'll try that, thank you.
They're not copyrighted tapes, it's mostly my university stuff and a couple of old TV recorded VHS's. If I were to update the firmware, would that be a case of buring a disc from my PC and putting it in the DVDR, or somehow connecting to the Internet? The Samsung is actually my first ever DVD recorder, so I'm still a novice with them. Thanks for your reply. |

yes burn to cd / dvd
just follow the instructions the scart sockets have symbols for input/ output on them .................... you may be able to watch the video signal if they are the wrong way round but for recording it maybe a no no |

If I was to burn that file to a disc, do I have to unzip it first or burn the zip file?
Also, what kind of DVD do I burn it to? DVD ROM, DVD Video? etc? I'll be using Nero. |

I've now got a file called R130P.RUF. I'm still not sure hwo to burn it to a format my machine will play. I tried burning it as a DVD ROM but it wouldn't read it? Should I try it as a DVD Video?

Managed to burn it and successfully update the firmware (well, the flash update as my DVD Recorder called it).
I've not had a shot at copying a VHS again, but when I do I'll let you know how it went. |
