If anybody has this box I would be grateful for advice on a few points before possibly purchasing it.
I'm only really interested in 720*576 transfer from PAL sources for later display on a PC Monitor and/or HDMI large screen via the PC.
All the U-Tube videos and tech info mostly talk about the NTSC 480 lines as the limit in high quality mode(I suppose as they come from NTSC USA).
Can someone confirm it can do 576 sourced from a Digital Terrestrial PVR or from a Sky box and recording into a USB hard Drive or a USB Memory Stick?
If I bought it I'd be using a USB stick and I note its says the speed of some of these will cause the transfer box to lower the qaulity of the recording on some memory sticks. Can anybody confirm it will allow full 720*576 quality with any up to date memory sticks?
Lastly, I currently use the Dazzle Platinum for transfer to a PC in MPG (2) format, using Video Redo TV Suite to top and tail and remove any adverts, and Mediacoder to reframe around the active picture area and compress to AVI or MP4 H.264 format.
Most digital commercial channels put out a screen less than 720*576 and use the TV to scale this up to a full size (horror of horrors this even goes on in HD channels), but the Dazzle (and I presume the Pinnacle Video Transfer) represents this as a smaller picture within a black frame of overall 720*576 dimensions. This makes post capture reframing necessary.
Capturing direct to .264 format with the Pinnacle Video Transfer box would save a lot of time and make it independant from my PC, but can anyone point me to a PC program to perform topping/tailing, frame to frame advert removal and a reframing function for 264 MP4s which would do the job without video quality loss or the need to completely recode the files.
If there isn't such a set of tools then it would seem more sensible for me to stick with the Dazzle for what I want to use it for.
I wish the reviewers would go more into these practical aspects rather than just regurgitate the specs fed to them in press releases!!
Can anybody help please?
