SrAlan just didn't want to hire him, fullstop. That is why he made him project manager, so that he would *have* to come back in if the team lost, and I think, ditto for Alex, mind you, with only the three of them, it is not so important.

I think Raef was fired as part of a small elimination process by Sir Alan. Perhaps he made Raef team leader to determine whether or not he was a one-hit wonder.
