A news article today claimed the S'ralan has blocks inserted
under his boardroom chair to make him look taller and more
impressive.
What does this tell you about him???
He's obviously painfully concerned about his less than average height( given as 5ft 6in) and wishes to look down on the poor applicants who he can bollock without them daring to answer back.

What does it tell us about him?

We don't know whether that's his idea, or that of the show's producers or directors. It might be that they thought it would make for a better visual if he seemed to be as intimidating visually as he is verbally and notionally (as the head of a commercial empire). In fact, having worked in film and tv, I'm pretty sure the idea did not come from him.

Anyway, a lot of shorter men compensate for it in other ways - some wear high heels, others become body builders and others act in an aggressive manner - it's called short man syndrome.

Plus, a lot of the corporate decor and style is built around elevating the boss' image and making the underlings feel insignificant.

I think he still looks quite small in the boardroom, though he has a big chair!

I'm sure it's just so that visually, he doesn't look odd next to Nick & Margaret.

Or the Apprentices...

From what most of the fired candidates have said on Your Fired, Sir Alan is intimidating enough just by walking in to the boardroom without needing any extra height.

True - it would take someone with his natural authority to carry off the 8-inch stilettos they make him wear.

So who are Margaret and Nick then? Joan Sims and Charles Hawtrey?

A rare shot from Series 3:

Sir Alan's raised platform

Super-high armrests gave the game away

Someone as self centred and bossy as S'rAlan would have a very powerful input to his presentation on TV.He rules the roost so it's his call about "chair boosters for small men"

" the idea did not come from him" what a laugh
