I used to swear by Panasonic DECT phones. Loved them. Couldn't go wrong. That's until I bought the KX-TG8122. Still not a bad phone overall, I've kept it for a couple of years despite its faults.
Faults there are, however. Firstly, the sound quality just isn't what I'd previously come to expect from Panasonic. It's ever so slightly fuzzy. Then there's the spurious MF tones that occasionally sound in your ear if you talk for any length of time.
Unforgiveable, however, is the lack of an audible (or visible) battery warning. I'm one of those people who likes to exercise his batteries. I only recharge them when they get low. With these handsets, if you're not using them the display is completely blank (so you don't know if it's died already until you go to use it) and they don't beep to tell you they're about to die. I can understand if people don't want their handsets to beep at them, so that should be an option that can be turned on or off.
You do get a beep if you're using the phone, about thirty seconds before the phone dies, just in time for you to try transferring the call to the other handset, only to discover it's dead already.
Anyway, I'm burbling. Can anybody recommend a decent DECT phone (with answerphone and two handsets) that has good sound quality, good build quality, audible battery warning, plus all the useful features the Panasonic phones have (such as night mode, caller groups with assignable ringtones and display colours etc.)? Price is not an issue at this stage. I'd like to come up with a shortlist first and then use value for money as a decider.
