DVD recorders?

Dont know if ive put this in the correct place.

Im a bit of a technophobe and im looking at purchasing a DVD recorder.

Im totally confused by everything ive been reading on the currys/comet websites.

What im looking for is a recorder with a hard drive that will replace my VHS video, I want it to be able to record sky, through it as i want the extra channels that extra channels that are not on freeview,

so am i looking for a digital one or an analogue, or is it not possible to record sky on to a dvd recorder. Will I have to get sky + to do this.

Thanks for any help im so confused

As far as I am aware there are no dvd recorders with Sky tuners built in- many do have Freeview built in though

You will need a Sky box at least.

You can then connect the Sky box via scart to the dvdr and record whatever the box is set to.

Sky+ of course gives the advantage that you can not only record one channel while watching another - you can record 2 channels at the same time and all without the annoying red dot that often pops up on many channels.

Ideally you would get Sky+ for your watch and wipe material.

Anything you wanted to keep you would transfer from Sky+ to the dvdr hard drive for editing commercials and general tidying up before a high speed burn to blank dvd.

The main thing is that if you are not interested in creating your own archive of tv recordings forget the dvdr.

Sky+ will then do all you need easier and better

I agree with Denis, a Sky+ is likely to be a much better solution - this is especially so since you are a self confessed technophobe.

If you do want to archive some recordings for long term use you are better off with Sky+ and a non HD DVDR that an HD DVDR by itself with no Sky+.
