[quote=Scarlet O'Hara;23983151]Hang on a sec... whilst I do think they've dropped the ball in letting the public cast a show for which they have a very clear idea of what they wanted, I think it's a pretty big leap in illogicality to say they don't have their finger on the pulse.

How you can possibly say that about two of the most legendary musical theatre personalities is beyond me. ALW alone will go down in history as absolutely bringing the masses to the theatre. His background is utterly irrelevant, as proven by the gazillions of pounds he's managed to make. His commercial and artistic abilities have proven, quite literally, bang on the money for decades now.

Let's not get carried away here. (Unless you're joking, in which case, nice irony. )[/QUO

A very good point well said

Denise and John holding hands with a look of dispair and disbelief on their faces added to my enjoyment

Still felt sorry for Rachel though

Maybe Jodie's crowning will teach them a lesson about trying to buy yourself masses of publicity with a show of this nature. They should never have let 'traditional' Nancy types through if they didn't want them to be picked. And they don't get more traditional than Jodie. You can practically see her heaving that bosom around a bar with large jugs [scuse the pun] of ale for her Bill.

Jodie isn't just like the Nancy of the film, she's like every busty tart with a heart who's ever graced the screen. If ALW and CM wanted something different, then as you say, they should have made their job spec a lot clearer from the get go and kept repeating it over and over and over again. They didn't and they're now in danger of coming unstuck.”

Best post of the day IMHO.

The panel are so out of tune with the public. Did anyone see JB and DVO clinging to each other when it was to be announced who between Sam/Jessie would join Rachel in the sing off.

They both were so hoping that Jessie would be in the sing off. As they named her as not being Nancy.
They are both so Sam biased!

The Public will decide next Sat, it doesn't matter what the panel say anymore, it doesn't sway the public vote to how they would like.

DVO always looks like she's feeling pain for the contestants and has cried during ALAHNM (though I didn't see any tears during Rachel's performance).

I have a theory that DVO is waering her hair in that sort of bun thing at the back of her head, a la Eva Peron, in the hope that ALW will cast her as the lead in Evita!

I agree, it was excruciating to watch. But it was great to watch that they both were proved wrong.

Actually with hindsight they know EXACTLY what they're doing. FAGAN is the star of the show and has the "SHOW-STOPPING" number. They didn't dare leave that part in the hands of an "unknown" who could "redefine" the role!

Even if they don't get the Nancy they want, they'll still have more publicity than they could have dreamed of. They're in a "win win" situation regardless of who is Nancy.

Now that the thought has occurred to me that ALW & CM might get his friends to vote for Sam next week, I'm actually really worried that they might! I've clearly flipped over into full conspiracy theory mode.

Suppose they did get their families or their employees to vote like crazy, would that be a scandal? Or would that be acceptable because they were as entitled to pay to vote as anyone else?

Their family and their employees are not allowed to vote legally. I don't think he'd bother taking a risk like that it's not that important to them, her fans will go and see her and when she leaves they will get someone else to do the part. They own most of the theatres and put on nearly all the musicals in the West End anyway so they will probably soon be absorbed in something else. It's not like their casting a brand new musical anyway Oliver has quite a following of it's own
