Help connecting hifi speakers to tv
Hi all hope someone can help. I'm trying to connect tv to my hifi as the tv speakers are not so good. Also connected is a digital reciever, if I connect the red / white connectors to the digi box the hifi speakers work fine, but if I connect them to the tv I get no sound, by the way the tv has built in dvd.
The tv is a UMC LCD and the digi box is a Nichimen PVR 1622Thanks for your time . |

Are the phono sockets on the back of the TV OUTPUTS or INPUTS. If they are inputs then they are no use to you.
Many TVs have a set of three phono sockets for Composite video and stereo audio to allow connection of a camcorder or similar kit. I suspect this is what your TV has. So they are designed to feed audio TO the TV not get audio OUT of it. One possibility however is that one SCART socket may carry audio and video OUT of the TV. If you do have two SCARTs on the TV try using a SCART to Phono adapter in the AV2 socket (commonly the AV2 SCART is the one with the outputs wired). Get one that is designated an OUTPUT or a switchable type set to OUT. Then plug your leads to the amp into the Audio phonos on the adapter. For example... http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=26540 It might be that you need to dive into the menu of the TV to set what comes out of the socket. Hopefully you can set it to feed whatever sound accompanies the pictures you are watching. If there is only one SCART and you have your digibox plugged into that then all is not lost. You can get SCART to SCART leads that break out the audio into a pair of phonos. Plug that end into the TV and you might get sound out of the TV.
