Instant black recordings
nineteen
27-05-2008
Quite repeatable -
So on Saturday, did a rewind on BBC1 during Eurovision and hit the record button.
Moved to ITV, watched for a bit and then returned to BBC1.
Tried to skip backwards, picture goes black.
Went to recorded list, tried to play that recording, it too is black. display still shows current channel name - not play.

This recording is almost phantom in that you cannot shuttle, and. Had to delete it .
This happened a week before.

Anyone else seen this?

I have also seen that with BBC1 but not any other channel.

It started abotu the same time and was still happening yesterday. I first noticed a problem when I couldn't rewind back into a programme. I could do it in the first 5 minutes after a channel change but any longer and it just jumped back to live.

The blank recording seems to only happen if you have rewound before pressing record, if you have a timed recording or just press record when live it works fine.

I thnk there must be something wrong with the BBC1 stream, probably something to do with interactive, it's normally to blame when you see this sort of thing.

The other time it happened it was a week ago with ITV1 on both Britain's got talent and pushing daisies. Each time I had done the rewind before hitting record.

I've just tested my machine and got the same with ITV.

Have you tried a restore defaults and fresh channel scan? Othere than waiting to see if it sorts itself out, it's all I can think of that might work.

I can't help feeling that this is some sort of corruption of the buffer; the only fix would be to reformat the drive.

I just did a system default and the problem is still there.
I don't want to do a disk format just yet - unless i know it will cure the problem (70 recorings)

anybody here NOT having these symptoms?

I tried as well, I don't want to reformat just yet either. I can live with it for now.

Tim

I have tried to replicate this one today on a couple of units, without success.

Thanks for trying Barry

Just to clarify, it goes wrong simply by rewinding live and hitting the record button. leave for a bit until it shows up in the recorded list, and then try and play it. - black
Another clue - the black recordings do not show up in the e-linker directory listing.

Tried again on two units...no joy I'm afraid cannot replicate.

This is another minor symptom of the corrupted filesystem situation - I had recent recording listed in IIRC the recordings list but not in Media Controller.

Seems to be working fine for me on BBC1 at least. I just wound back 25 minutes to the weather forecast and started recording, left it a while and then played the recording from the playlist. The recording was fine so I fast forwarded to the current time and the whole recording is there.

To add to this, I found another one of the end of programme is repeat of first part type recording.

This weekend I upgraded to a 500GB (ACE) disk, which I formatted on the Humax first and then copied all the recordings from the old drive using humaxrw.

The problem has gone.
So I guess I can confirm that a reformat fixes the problem.
