Hard to tell without knowing the remaining 3 lineups - if they can only send 2 acts through it depends if they have say 3 who are good enough.

Signature (:S they bored me) and Kate/Gin are through, and unless his nerves/lack of self-confidence get him drastically for him not to make the top 3 Andrew will join them, and probably Flava.

Out of the others, I'd probably put George, Charlie Green, Farya, Scala and the footballer guy (for something different) through. The tenth is hard, but I think the other Charlie is naturally funny, just needs to find some funny jokes as opposed to cliche. When he was left to interact with the judges he was funnier than when he did the act.

Problem is, not enough of the acts really stand out and it does depend on how they group them.

Signature - the most fitting act for The Royal Variety.

We had a singer last year and , no disrespect , but kids - aren't parents living vicariously through them? Why promote that thing? I am with Simon Cowell on that one - please let the kids grow up being kids. They have time to succeed.
Let's have age limit again , so pushy parents can't destroy childhood because they can't wait.

The kid that is good at 12/13 will be good at 16, if it is to be.
Let them try then, in a singing contest.

besides Signature, I would like to see Kate and Gin in the final, Iona the contortionist, Flava, Scala, the magician from today (with the levitation) and , maybe, the karate duo.

1. If a kid is talented enough to WIN (and not just look cute or be something different like Alex) then why shouldn't they enter. The standard of Charlie, Andy and Farya's singing is definitely professional, and better than a lot of adults on the show. However, I do think some of the kids really shouldn't be on there as they're not good enough.

2. I'm not entirely sure who you're referring to - but for a girl or a non-singer you might have a point. With a boy singer you really can't tell what biology will do to them!

3. Such as? There's already an awful lot of singers who just wouldn't fit on the X-factor. Farya is good but on the X-factor or Pop Idol?

1. If a kid is talented, is still a kid. Do tell how many kids, talented and pushed forward at a young age, have managed a good life (even if they got a successfull careeer)?
Remember Britney?? Macaulay Culkin? Lindsay Lohan? River Phoenix (RIP)?

How many - in respective years, said they were happy and wanted this success, only to grow up as drug addicts, alcoholics etc ..dead. How many say, now, they regret their parents pushing them and destroying their childhood? How many said they had no childhood and grew up disfunctional because of that? Drew Barrymore? She was an alkie and druggie by 13, FGS! She recovered , but how many did? Not Britney, nor Macaulay, nor others...

And if they win and do ok (which is a small chance) they still have no childhood (they use it on training and recitals and recording and promo) and if they don't win - how hard it must be for them to cope, too.

Both ways, they shouldn't be pushed in shows like these.

Make a special Young Talent Competition, like US has. And make sure they aren't pushed afterwards.

All valid but it depends on the kids and the parents to make sure that doesn't happen.

For every one of those cases, which is clearly a result of their upbringings being incapable of handling the pressure of fame, there are kids who do reach fame at an early age yet still behave normally - Nick Hoult was in a movie at about 12 years old and not only is still acting but doesn't appear to be getting into bother, if you must have a citation of a child singer then Aled Jones.

Admittedly some kids can't handle fame but you could argue in those cases the fame and money has catalysed the decline as opposed to being the reason for it.

As for making jibes about spelling/typing then it was only one letter off, you clearly knew who I meant, and I'm typing this through remote desktop on a slow machine with a slow connection... :P

All valid because that it what happens in most cases.. 99% of child stars end up regretting their parents' decision. There is only a few cases of succes - you can only bring , quickly, 2 -3 cases ... the most of child star cases are NOT stories of final succes. And we do not talk financial , really.

From ALL the biographies of child stars - BIG names- I don't think I can name one in which I didn't read lamentations regarding their lost childhood, the damage on their adult life their 'success' has brought. Check with psychologists - there is damage to relationships, adaptation etc from every case studied.
Whichever way you look at it , kids should be allowed to be kids.

Give them a Kids' Talent Show - so they can be showcased and kept in the 'producer's books' but let them have a happy 16 years first.

Trust me, if kids had their say, most of those that you see and are under 15/16 wouldn't be there.

They rather prefer to do kids' things. They aren't equipped to handle fame. Neither are many adults, for that matter.
And I sincerely didn't know with the Farya/Faryl thing. It could have been another singer you were referring to.

Back to top 10: I think we should have dancers/magicians/dog acts ... or acts in similar paths. That is what the Variety Show should be representative of.
We have a lot of singing shows - maybe make a Young Talent Show - Star Search, like the US ones, especially for under 16.

So basically what you're saying is that some kids can handle it, some can't and some adults can handle it and some can't. So why is it necessarily age?

I can see what you're saying antalmax and I agree that it's not fair to put too much pressure on youngsters in pursuit of their talent. Lena Zavarone for example was removed from everything she knew and had to live in London away from her family. I heard Donny Osmonde lamenting about his lost childhood too, but what I couldn't help wondering was what the alternative would have been especially for those kids who were not sent away from their homes.

I mean, would Donny Osmond trade the life he has now for having had a more normal childhood? Somehow I doubt it.

There are plenty of 'normal' kids that fall prey to addictions, low self esteem, anorexia and difficulty in forming relationships and I think that has more to do with the people around them, their role models and the way they are raised. Child stars are not necessarily any more maladjusted than the rest of us, Bonnie Langford being one who springs to mind, Nicholas Lyndhurst is another one. Hayley Mills seems to have come out of it ok too.
