Can anyone recommend any discs and are there any issues with + (plus) format discs?
Hi all,
Can anyone recommend any recordable discs for my Panasonic DVD recorder, please? Also, do Panasonic recorders prefer + (plus) or - (minus) format discs? I think I remember reading somewhere that Panasonic recorders have compatibility issues with plus format discs?, however, I think that this could just be plus format discs recorded on other brands of recorder? Many thanks in advance for any advice. Cheers, Steve. |

If you can get the Panasonic ones they are really good quality. I have used the + and - formats and not had any problems with using them on my Ex77. I have also used Verbatim, TDK, Maxell with no problems. Just remember you have to format the + format before you can record onto them.
Sure Gavtech will be along soon to sort you out with all the gen. He's the man you know

As Bigalt says, you can use either + or - types without problems, but in Panasonic machines support is deeper for - types so it is generally best to use that type if you can. [ Copy options are generally better and less restricted ] Either of these types is very good quality and well matched to your machine: http://www.ukdvdr.co.uk/shop/Panason...-pr-20043.html http://www.ukdvdr.co.uk/shop/Panason...-pr-20049.html |

Many thanks for the replies.
Would either of these two be okay? http://www.ukdvdr.co.uk/shop/DVD-R-1...-pr-40822.html http://svp.co.uk/product/panasonic_b...vd_plus_r_3638 At the moment I prefer to buy discs on a spindle rather than in jewel cases due to lack of space. Also, I have been using the "branded" type of disc - where you see printing already on the top of the disc, e.g. the brand. I bought some silver printable discs once and they seemed to pick up my fingerprints and I always write on the disc using a pen as my printer can't print discs. Would the white-top printable discs be okay to write on? Finally, if I bought + (plus) format discs would I be likely to have any playback problems - either on the Panasonic or on other machines - I've read somewhere that Panasonic's don't like playing back + (plus) format discs - or is that just + format discs recorded using other machines? I have some + format discs recorded using a Goodmans DVD recorder and the Panasonic can't read them. Thanks again, Kind regards, Steve. |

You should have no problem playing the recordings on the same machine but playing them on other recorders can be a bit hit and miss. I burn things to DVD on the EX77 and my sister has problems playing them on the ES15 both Panasonics. Playing on other DVD players depends on the player, some like one format better than the other. (newer ones should be able to play both + & - format)
If you write on the disks with a marker best to stick to the shiny ones. I bought the printable ones and it was quite good and drying the tip out as you write on them

Panasonic will only put their brand on top quality manufactured discs - which you can be assured will match your machine well. Quote:

Would the white-top printable discs be okay to write on? Ensure you use pens specifically for the job of DVD/ CD writing. 'Universal' markers contain xylene which can cause 'print-through' over time. This applies to all DVD marking - not just white tops. Quote:

Theoretically, if finalised then the discs become DVD-Video discs - just like commercial DVD's and should be playable in virtually everything. I've never heard of such a problem. More often than not these ' known issues' arise for other reasons which inexperienced users are not aware of. I would expect them to work OK. I understand you would like to know before purchase...but there is no way to be 100% certain unless you try some. I cant see a way around that unfortunately. |
