At the moment I prefer to buy discs on a spindle rather than in jewel cases due to lack of space.”
Either of these would be fine.
Panasonic will only put their brand on top quality manufactured discs - which you can be assured will match your machine well.

Would the white-top printable discs be okay to write on?”
Yes - No problem
Ensure you use pens specifically for the job of DVD/ CD writing.
'Universal' markers contain xylene which can cause 'print-through' over time.
This applies to all DVD marking - not just white tops.

I have some + format discs recorded using a Goodmans DVD recorder and the Panasonic can't read them.

Have the discs been finalised?
Theoretically, if finalised then the discs become DVD-Video discs - just like commercial DVD's and should be playable in virtually everything.
I've never heard of such a problem.
More often than not these ' known issues' arise for other reasons which inexperienced users are not aware of.
I would expect them to work OK.
I understand you would like to know before purchase...but there is no way to be 100% certain unless you try some.
I cant see a way around that unfortunately.
