Is "scheduled for release shortly" according to DWM 396.

I'd guess that means January 2009, but it's good news. The RT have been working on the picture quality for years, so it'll be interesting to see how good it looks.

Great news, one of my favourite Troughtons!

That just leaves The Dominators, The Krotons and The Ice Warriors (maybe with animated episodes?) and all his existing episodes will be out on DVD.

This is great news! I remember when I first watched this, I prepared myself for 10 episodes of padding with not much happening but how wrong I was. This is a great story that fills all the episodes perfectly and gives us our first glimpse of The Doctor's origins (not necessarily a good thing).

I remember my friend had the VHS release and we did all of it in one sitting... not to be advised. It's wonderful but IMHO best viewed on an ep by ep basis (as nature intended!). Saying that, I'm not advocating waiting a week between eps... perhaps daily?

Get ready for your best Troughton quotes.... Oh my giddy aunt, oh Crumbs!

I have yet to see this. The video was too expensive and I never got it for my birthday or for Xmas.

I feel deprived.

It also confirms the releases for the rest of the year are Brain of Morbius (July), Trial of a Timelord (August), Four To Doomsday (Sept.), The War Machines (October) and Battlefield (November), so I'd imagine War Games is the traditional January boxset.

Well the first 8 episodes aren't great. But the last 2 are excellent and make up for it.

I watched it on youtube a while back (the tw*ts have deleted it now!) and it was really good. Love PT, he is one of my favourite Doctors, possibly the best but i;m starting Tom Baker and he is very good as people say.

Not a great year for releases then, the best ones of out of those have to be The Brain of Morbius and The War Games. If I had some spare change in my pocket then I'd consider buying Battlefiels if only to smash it some sort of ceremony marking bad Who.

Having said that, episode 9 has one of the best cliffhangers ever, it's certainly well worth seeing.

I'll always like battlefield, if only because I remember watching it aged 8, and by god did the destroyer cliffhanger freak me out. Love it.

Great news!

I love 'The War Games' - my favourite of the complete surviving Troughton sagas!

Sounds a like a brilliant purchase to get during the year when the current Doctor Who is off the air. You could watch one episode every Saturday night

War Games is great - but then again, all of Troughton is great imo!

with the current planned release schedual I think that is unlikely The War Games will be released in january as this release slot is now traditionaly a 3 story box set .

Well, the War Games is 12 episodes long. That would make it a 3 DVD Box set if Extras are included.

it's only 10 parts long at the very least it will be a 2 disc set though i'd not be supprised to see 3 discs but even so this will all come in a single DVD case. so it certainly will not be a box set.

It would be cool if it was the E-space trilogy or the Black Guardian Trilogy for said january boxset release

I wonder if the Trial of a Timelord will come in another Tardis Tin, there's no way I'd want to ditch my current VHS boxset and Tardis Tin if it didn't

I'm sure it'll be just two discs. In the past they've had six-parters (plus extras) on one disc and four-parters (plus extras) on one disc so there's no reason why they couldn't fit 10 episodes and extras across two discs.

I guess so. It was broadcast from April-June 1969 So they could release it in April on it's 40th anniversary.
