Play have posted mine yesterday. I am so excited as I have never seen it. One of the very few Doctor Who stories that I have missed due to Christmas present incompetence!

I think it looks really good - I've tried an episode on my tv and a second episode on my PC: the picture is sharp and clear on both, while the sound is flawless so far...

They were helped because when the VHS was released, they didn't realize the BFI had better quality copies of most of the episodes than were in the BBC archive, and the DVD is using the BFI copies.

That's interesting - I didn't know that!

Speaking of the BFI, did anyone else make it to BFI Southbank last night? They showed episodes 2 & 4 of The Moonbase - classic cybermen on the big screen!

This was followed by an episode of a 1970s sci fi soap opera called Moonbase 3, which brought together the talents of many, many Doctor Who personnel - both in front of and behind the camera (e.g. Terrance Dicks and Barry Letts - AND Peter Miles and Michael Wisher!).

All in all, very good fun; and a fab way to kick off a Friday

Ooooooooooooooh, I'd have loved that! Listened to/watched Moonbase recently, and it's really excellent. Mrs Chuff has just been listening to the audio book, courtesy of a competition in DWM, and thoroughly enjoyed it and Anneke Wills's range of preposterous accents.

I have Moonbase 3 on video, bought in a charity shop last year. Not seen it yet, but will get round to it one day.

What a treat to see all of that on the big screen!

Important news: the sock puppets are on disc 2. On the subtitle screen highlight info text and press right. Not quite as good as the planet of the dead one, but still laugh out loud funny.

Maybe I was a little hard on it there, 1-8 have great moments, but they're just so contrived to pad it out. And doing stuff like having a Southern US civil war soldier talking with a pretty clear West Indies accent doesn't help (send him back to Eastenders!) I don't recommend trying to watch all 4 hours of it in one go, you'll get bored.

To be honest, you only need to watch the first and last episodes.

The rest is all filler!

Rubbish - there are some great parts across all the episodes.

In who's opinion?

I have watched it lots of times, and in my opinion you can watch the first and last and not have missed anything vital!

Just finished watching this DVD - its amazing how this story stretches out over 10 episodes, but remains interesting with some great characters along the way.

The sets designs of the alien zone are realised brilliantly, I love the vortex design of the wall and the gullotine style door. It was a surprise to see the colour photographs of the sets as in my mind they are always monochrome - so to see the reds and yellows used in the design makes it that little bit more special.

The War Chief - we never really find out much about who he is, other than another renegade Time Lord. Watching the character on screen he reminds me very much of The Master. I wonder Terrance used him as his template for creating The Master a few years later? (IMO it would also be quite credible to say that The War Chief is The Master in an earlier form).

The closing scenes always leave me feeling quite sad - seeing the Doctor spinning off into space is a great end for Patrick. Such a pity that much of his DW work is sadly missing. He was a great Doctor - one of the best ever IMO.
