However, this incredibly superior individual actually spelt "educational",...as...."eduational" ........some other guy pulled him up on this....so the poster tried to use his superior intellect to rectify his mistake by trying to edit the original spelling, so as to make things look like there wasn't a mistake in the first place.

Unfortunately, he needed to educate himself how to edit his own posts,..as it took him three attempts before he got it right, as it was blatantly apparent that he kept "replying with quote" to his own post,....doh.
So not only does he spell badly,...he also can't edit posts for toffee.

Well there is the occasion where it is completely acceptable.

That instance being, is when some smart alec swans in here to dazzle us with their intellect, then condemns another forum Member for their lack of educational experience and bad spelling,.....only to make some terrible spelling errors themselves.

Actually,..come to think of it, I can remember such an instance.

A poster came on trying to prove their verbal dexterity, and took issue with some innocent poster for their spelling and low educational standard.
However, this incredibly superior individual, who we were priveledged to see grace this forum, actually spelt "educational",...as...."eduational" ........some other guy pulled him up on this....so the poster tried to use his superior intellect to rectify his mistake by trying to edit the original spelling, so as to make things look like there wasn't a mistake in the first place.

It was a moment I particularly savoured, the poetic justice was so sweet to taste on that occasion..

...and said person was also banned later that day. Sommet to do with personal attacks on FMs if memory serves correctly...

My educational standard is very subjective!
But my spelling is appealing !

i will be the 1st to admit im not the best with my spelling or my grammer .......i also can not type as im not trained to do so ....

this is a point that really ticks me off with people here when they have a dig at others for their lack of education in english

im not thick or stupid (ok well maybe a tad) but i, like many others enjoy participating in this forum and do not wish to be made to feel inferior and be put off posting, worried that it might be knocked by the FMs with a degree (cus the pun) or 2 more education

or have i got it wrong and this forum is for the elite

if so ........i'll get my coat

a specialism in one field does not make you a specialist in all fields, a most general and trivial point, but sadly still often overlooked by this worlds academics

From training, background and general preference I write careful, reasonably-accurate posts. And for a long time I lurked, because I didn't feel able to compete with the brightly-coloured twitterings of so many FMs. Eventually, I realised that I didn't have to compete - all shades of opinion and levels of ability are respected here, provided only that we respect the others. So don't you start feeling inferior, now that I've just managed to get over feeling inferior to you!

There is one FACT that I can meantion and as I did an A level in Communication and Media Studies, I stand a chance of getting it right!

The fact is - Spelling/grammer and Communication are TWO VERY different things!

Based on that, I personally feel that as long as you communicate that is the main thing on here!
If you produce something that is spelt correctly and has perfect grammer, but does not communicate what you want to say - it is worthless!

As I learnt at colledge - Communication is just that: Communication!
You would not make a poster for a Teenage Disco saying -
Hello Boys and Girls! There is to be held on the 14th day of March, a wonderful Disco with flasing lights! This Musical Delight is to start at 8:30pm. Come along and have a Dance!

If you did, you wouldn't get many takers!
It may (or may not) be set out correctly, but it does not communicate what you want to say to your "Target audience".

TXT SPEEK - (whether you hate it or like it) is just that - it's a form of communication, not a spelling/grammer test!

So! Carry on COMMUNICATING!

ITz Well Wikkid !!!

I really do try not to snipe about spelling - someone has to drive me pretty far up the wall to get me to resort to that

Besides, my own use of spelling, grammar and punctuation on forums is far from up to scratch

One teeny thing about text speak though. If I have to try and work out what the message means, the point isn't really sinking in and sometimes I don't even bother trying.

That could be my age though - I'm an old fogey

As far as I am concerned, I have always considered your posts to be amongst the most interesting on DS & one of the reasonsd that I enjoy visiting the Forum !

“You have to be VERY strong to not feel upset when you're personally attacked, even if it is only electronically. Frankly, I feel that some posters are "internet bullies" (if there is such a thing), and not everyone is bold or able to shrug it off! Also, it sometimes feels rather cliquey - the "old-timers" of the forum seem to be allowed to say whatever they like without being challenged, whereas relative newcomers often have to tread on eggshells.

But having said all this there have been a few threads that offered some great debate, so on the whole I've enjoyed this year's forum.”

This is my first year on the forum and can identify with the sentiments expressed in this post, I have not posted on several occasions because I feared reprisals from 'the troll's. Having said that though I have read some great posts and wish I could think of those put downs!

Ben 4321 - I've enjoyed reading your posts, you've expressed a lot of the thoughts I've had.

I've been reading this forum for well over a year and have only started posting fairly recently.
I'm not sure that I add an awful lot to the forum compared with most, I'm more of a one-line kind of poster mainly because I don't have an awful lot of time to explain many of my thoughts or opinions in any great detail.
I do enjoy reading others thoughtful, witty and often well-informed posts and while I'll admit the laughs I've I'd reading the forum this year are much fewer in number than last year, I've still enjoyed reading the forum much more than the show itself.

I can see your point, John.

I have enjoyed almost every minute of being on these forums and my other half regrets ever sending me the url for digital spy.

But sometimes it gets so difficult to hold back from lashing out at these people who spoil it a bit. Yes I liked Jon, yes I disliked Cam. I hated Fed and have warmed to him post-BB. But that's what I watched the show for. I try so hard to back up my opinions with reasoned argument and I'm willing to hear any argument to the opposite and I also enjoy agreeing to disagree. All the HMs had their merits. Even Cameron!

It's just so tiring trying to remain calm and reasonable when faced with people which dizzy has mentioned on points b/ and c/. Point a/ is to be expected and the smilies only annoy me when they aren't used correctly. Point e/ hacks me off because of the pedant in me (I learned that irk from BBG and Pedantic

But this forum has been so much more interesting than BB4. Especially because of some of the stars that Dizzy mentioned and so many more besides (you know who you are). It's a shame that you haven't posted more Dizzy. I can probably guess your reasons as so many posters from last year have sat on the side lines this year - watching with the kind of morbid fascination that you would equally expect to see at the site of a car crash. I hope BB5 brings you all back in to the fold.

[DARIUS]Can you feel the love in this thread?[/DARIUS]
”

Completely agree Macattack. It's been my first year in the forum and you're right. It's regularly been more fun in here than watching the show. I've had a great time reading some of the posts and especially enjoyed some lively and tongue in cheek debates with some of you - you know who you are Despite BB4 still being Channel 4s top show it was definitely lacking the spark of previous years. Maybe the mix of people was wrong? The only HMs that seemed to stir up any feelings (good or bad) were Jon and Cam. It certainly wasn't the 'back to basics' that was promised with all those novelty surprises chucked in. They just seemed desperate to me and didn't really work. Ah well. Roll on BB5. Hugs and kisses all round

Hello and welcome to rose tinted land, where no one who supported Alex had a bad word to say about Kate, no one who supported Kate ever slagged off Alex..and no one supported Jonny.

I stopped posting at the same time last year as I did this year for EXACTLY the same reasons. Whether its the same Jon/Alex was the real winner of BB threads or the Kate/Cameron won it, deal with it you losers threads, the forums descend into pure bile with a few weeks to go and its just no fun to read.
