I don't know how big your plants are but if they are small enough try using Wine Carrier Bags, the type that hold 6 bottles. I'm sure your local wine shop/supermarket would oblige.

Yey! How many plants do you have? How many fruits are you getting on each plant?

Thanks to this thread, I learnt about the paint brush on the flowers thingy. I now have three flowers on my chili plant and, in the absence of a paint brush and a cotton bud, I used a spare sponge make up applicator! Fingers crossed.

Lots of other flowers coming but not opened yet.

I have to confess though that the plant was given to me by my mum who had been given two of them by a neighbour. Saying that, I have managed to keep it alive (of which I'm quite proud!) and my mum's upset that she hasn't got any flowers yet!

I've given one of my plants to my sister and while she is keeping hers indoors in her living room window, she has got TWO big white flowers on her plant.
My 6 are being kept outside now they have been replanted out to their final pots and they have plenty of buds coming but NO blossoms yet

Yes, my plant (with flowers) is on the kitchen windowsill, my mum's plant (with no flowers) is in her greenhouse. Presumably they prefer it a bit warmer?

14? nice!

I am worried, I currently have 65 shoots... shooting, imagine if I grew them all and got 14 on each one?

I am going to have to give a lot of them away once they get bigger. Whatever possessed me to stick that many seeds in I don't know. I didn't think they would all take of though.

i think so - and dry

from my experience drying other vegetation, id suggest spreading them out on newspaper and sun drying them outside or in the airing cupboard

Here are the three plants that I bought from Ebay. These pictures were taken a couple weeks ago and the plants are even bigger now and have got buds growing already.

The seeds I planted are doing well too, only got about 4 left as I have gave the rest away.

I'll take more photos of what they look like now when I get home and post them. I might even clean my window sill this time too.

I have heard its quite easy and was thinking of giving it a go.

I know you can do it straight from seed but to skip the boring germination stage I have been looking on Ebay and you can get young plants for a few £.

So, is it as easy as people say? Anyone got any tips to share?”

go to

and click on the forums page, you won't believe how much info you can get from there. Its like a DS site for chillies so you will need to register but its free

Lots of fruit on them.. gonna try my first tommorow night when I make chillie con carne

They're just in 6 inch pots on my window sill, 1 in the kitchen, one in living room.

mine are monsters now, the ones i planted earlier this year, im serious when i say they are over 2 feet tall, and the leaves are a good 15 cm big...

i think its because they are in quite large pots and have been fed tomato feed...

i will deffo put some pics up tonight on photo bucket or whatever it is

Well I have my first batch of chili's coming through. Of the 10 or so seeds planted I have 6 growing nicely, though one of them is strangely different to the rest.

It is nearly 2 foot tall with small buds forming at the top, yellow frond like flowers; but very little else. The others are shorter, broad leaves and white (crocus-like) flowers. Its the white flowered ones that are getting the chili pods growing, though I didn't use a paint brush; I used my little finger to pollinate between each flower.

Sorry for the double post, some pics of my plants, the last one is the strange one. If anybody knows what it is, I'd be grateful to find out - even if it isn't a chili plant.

I have been growing chilli plants here in Siouthern Spain for many years.

At the end of the season we have so many chilli's, we place them in food processor with a little olive oil and mince the chilli's, and place them in jars.

They last for years, and get hotter every year, ideal for use in curries and for that added spice.

Warning, they do get very hot indeed and you only need a little.

Enjoy

For those looking to start growing their own, there a few places you can get seeds from online.

One place I found called Little Green Men will actually grow the plants for you and then you pick them up; either from Chorley or one of the many markets they attend.

Another is Chilli Seeds, who actually sell the seeds to some of the hottest chilli's in the world.

Just as an update, the plant I have that looked odd. Well it was odd, its not a chili plant Not sure what it is, but I contacted the Chile Man; who confirmed it wasn't a chili plant.

Here's a more up to date piccie of my lot:

http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x...s/DSC00081.jpg

the biggest one has got loads of flowers on it now and the smaller one is starting to bud quite nicely too.

Getting quite excited I am. Just gonna have to think of some things to make with them now.

The three biggest plants (from left to right are), Dorset naga, Cayenne and Sunburst. Can't remember what the 4 smaller ones are of the top of my head.

I've also got a rogue plant in my chillies . It has the same leaves and flowers, but the fruit is like a half size golf ball standing vertically on it's stem (don't go there ). I can't wait to see what developes.

The chilli plants are doing fantastic though, one has 14 chillies on 90 to 100 mm long another with 12 on,and they're still in flower. Another hasn't even a flower on it yet, never mind a chilli.

From the few websites that I posted earlier, I know there are some plants that have vertical pods.

Given the pictures and reports, nearly everyone is getting a good crop this year. Will be interesting to see what come through in next years growth.

Coincidently one of the pods I have is curled right up on itself. It should be straight, but maybe got damaged when I was trying to pollinate it; so as its grown its twisted up on itself.
