Hi
Am looking for a freeview box with a twin tuner and hdd but it needs to be as cheap as possible. Its for a tv-mad woman whose kids want to treat her to one for her birthday but don't have much money. Looked at Micro Direct but read a lot of reviews that said their refurb boxes had broken down after a short time.
Thanx in advance

Unfortunately you don't state how much you want to spend.

If you're uncomfortable with the prospect of a refurb then you will need to consider brand new. From what I've seen the biggest issue with some of the refurbs seems to be the software they're using. Since they're usually end of line, it's unlikely there will be over the air software upgrades so on the basis the user(s) of this aren't comfortable hooking the box up to a PC to update the software, you're looking at a brand new box.

There's probably no need to spend more than £100 to get what you're after though - look at these from the Argos website:

All are under £ 100, come with 1 year g'tee.

They're all rebranded Vestel boxes, but I've had a Digihome badged Vestel PVR for 2 years with no probs. Cost me about £ 80 and I can truthfully say wouldn't be without it now.

You'll find similar boxes in places like Tesco and Asda as well.

Which just goes to show how poor Which magazine is!

As in the past they probably tested a number of identical badged units, and gave some good reviews and gave other identical units poor reviews.
