Jodie is certainly not too fat to play Nancy!

I think that's an awful thing to say because IMO Jodie isn't even fat, she's an average size, she only looks bigger because the others especially Sam has a blink and you'll miss it waist! Anyone would look big standing next to Sam and Jessie each week who still have the luxury of being in their teens where weight doesn't seem to stay on girls.

I just feel like stories like this will keep popping up in a desperate attempt to get the public who voted for Jodie to desert her on Saturday night. I am sure that the panel who have been "dissing" Jessie for weeks will somehow miraculosly says she is back on Saturday! I like both Jodie and Jessie and perhaps now the panel will see that the public are sick of the Sam hype.

I do believe the panel should have been honest from the start why put through people like Jodie and Sarah who are the shape of ordainary women when they wanted a teenage waif for the role. The panel should have realised there predominantly female viewers would have responded better to real women.

Jodie is not too fat - she isn't fat at all!

As a comparison, you can see her at her biggest when she started on the UK's Biggest Loser at over 18 stone. She won at 9 stone something and was tiny, size wise. (have a look on You Tube for her story, there's a 2 part video available)

I would guess she is around 12 or so stone now - probably a size 14, possibly a 16 at the very most.

I've noticed she looks much slimmer when she is rehearsing in trousers - the clothes she has worn in the competition have not done her any good what so ever, some really poor choices - but then all the contestants have had that problem in some way.

The other girls are tiny things - Jodie has stage presence as well as looking great and that is what is important.

Have the panellists/experts never heard the expression, 'you can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make it drink.'

I find it difficult to believe that after so many reality shows these so called experts have failed to realise that, when it comes to the vote - the public pay the phone bill and they'll put their money where their mouth is.

Is Jodie too OLD?

Nancy was corrupted at the age of six by Fagin, the lovable but villainous person who persuades downtrodden youths to do his bidding. Her exact age is not mentioned in the book , although she has evidently been a prostitute for 12 years, and is visibly in her twenties or thirties in film versions of the novel.

Yes, But...she says she was half Oliver's age when she was taken into the gang. And that was 12 years since.
She has not been a prostitute for 12 years, she was half Olivers age (=6 ) when she joined the gang which was " 12 years since "..6 +12 = !8. She is continually referred to as a " girl " by Dickens. I know we use the term " girls " to cover practically any age these days, but in Dickens time a " girl" really was a girl.
Of course, you can work around that..films and stage productions have done that since. However, if you did want to stay true to the Dickens novel, Nancy should be around 18. You have to remember life expectancy was a lot different is Victorian times in the squalor of the East End. Even Fagin would probably not have lived to the age he is usually portrayed and a gin-slugging prostitute would probably have been dead before reaching 30.

Just because the other too a slim doesn't mean there fit does it. At least Jodie has sang on cruise ships and done cabaret so would know how to handle doing shows every night of the week.

some of the prior Nancies have not been 17........believe me...and if the choice of understudy is to be believed.......she is 42..........

age does not give you talent................

Who cares what age Nancy is? It's called 'acting' people! Sean Connery was only 12 years older than Harrison Ford when he played his father. Did it make him rubbish? No.

Also, when Richmondblue mentions that a gin drinking prostitute would be dead before 30 - Isn't that what happens to nancy?

The Nancy who came to help them at Nancy school looked larger than Jodie. She wasn't exactly a tiny slim woman and he hired her . The show isn't exactly Chicago none of the cast really dance .

Of course, she is murdered. But what makes that all the more tragic ( in the novel ) is that she is only a girl, only half a dozen years older than Oliver himself. She is not ( again, in the novel ) some experienced old " tart with a heart ".
You can change the character...fine. But lets not pretend it still remains true to the Dickensian version.

Is Jodie Too FAT?

She is described thus when she first appears "a couple of young ladies called to see the young gentlemen; one of whom was named Bet, and the other Nancy. They wore a good deal of hair, not very neatly turned up behind, and were rather untidy about the shoes and stockings. They were not exactly pretty, perhaps; but they had a great deal of color in their faces, and looked quite stout and hearty."

So that's no and no.

Nancy is supposed to be "quite stout and in her late twenties"

The only think Jodie has "done wrong" is fallen foul of a couple of body facists on this show...”

that's great and i agree with it. unfortunately, in todays theatre it seems different, sadly, regardless, Jodie is just fine anyway.

But by that vein, none of the musical adaptions since 1960 have been true to the Dickensian version (I can't think of anyone who's played Nancy at 17/18 professionally myself, but if I'm wrong, feel free to correct me). As far as I'm concerned - fine, if they were to cast someone who was young in the role, it shouldn't be because they are young - more because they're the best person for the part. If there was a young contestant who I thought was the best, I'd vote for her, but at present I don't think the younger girls are as good as Jodie. The age thing doesn't bother me at all, because we're casting Bart's Oliver!, not Dickens' Oliver Twist.

Yes, thats true. I would like to see a version more true to the novel..something a little darker. Thats just my own personal preference though.

I knew you'd swoop on that Casp - you professional Scot you!

Could Sean Connery be Nancy? Could Nancy have a scottish accent? Is he too old? He's certainly too beardy!

hush your mouth - cabaret and cruise ships are dirty words.

If Burn Gorman (Owen from Torchwood) has been cast as Bill Sykes... then yes she is too big to be Nancy in this production.

The idea of him knocking her around just isn't believable. She looks like she could kick his ass...and you really don't want that from a Nancy IMO.

well, either Bill Sykes, him or Dyer are smaller. and.. abuse isn't about size, if she is scared a twirp could beat Nancy up. just like men can get battered, albeit rarely.
